I sold my BP1200.1 to my friend and he put it on his Lanzar Max dvc 15s in a sealed box and I helped him set the gain so it wasn't distorting or bottoming out and about an hour later one of the subs blew when he was driving home.
Here is what blows my mind: He swapped in the old Lighning audio subs in a 2cubic ft box tuned to about 28 hz and hooked them up to the amp without turning down the gain. http://www.carreview.com/cat/car-audio/subwoofers/lightning-audio/PRD_342585_1808crx.aspx These subs are 150 watts and their fs is 45 hz and they have 3 mm of Xmax according to their manual.
He's put about 6 hours of playtime at about 500 watts rms per coil and they still aren't dead yet.
I figured they would have went up in flames after 1 straight hour of playtime.
What do you all think about this?
I guss they do make a lil bit of overloading noise at full volume, but i was suprised either way.

Power does not blow a speaker...distortion does.
If the power is clean a woofer will take a TON of power. I ran some Kove KEW 10's at about 30% over their rated. Ran them like that for months. They NEVER did blow from excessive heat they blew cause the suspension just finally got "tired" as someone put it to me. They started to bottom out on extremes when they didnt before.
So not a huge supprise.

Whatever, distortion DOES kill. Try hooking up a MT to a small pyramid amp and pin the sh*t out of it. Guess what happens???? Yup, you guessed it, smoked woofer. I have seen good woofers blown by too little power about 10 to 1 rather than the opposite.

There are 2 things that will cause a speaker to blow:
1. to much power (you either exceed the thermal or mechanical limits of the speaker). 2. Defective speaker.
I'm sorry but a group of copper windinds is not smart enough to know the difference between a distorted signal and a clean signal. All it sees is a signal.

if distortion kills speakers, your speakers would blow everytime nirvana played on the radio. /discussion.

^that I agree with. Clipping your amplifier produces additional power---and that additional power can cause you to exceed the thermal or mechanical limits of the speaker. The fact the signal is distorted means nothing.
EDIT: Also--to little power does not blow anything. If that was true, your speakers would blow everytime you turned the volume down.
