I have 1200...only 1200 to put a system in my car. Nothing spectacular, like competion. But not walmart style. I was going to purchase an alpine deck, mtx sledghammer dual TA7512x2, and a mtx TA7801

Look for deals and if your really smart with that $1200 and find deals, You could have a really nice setup with cash to spare. What part of IL are you from? Im from just north of Waukegan IL.

Ebay and car audio fourm used equipment sections in conjunction with each other can make a killer setup for cheap. But you'll actually have to listen to peoples suggestions and act on them if you want a decent setup.

look for used equipment or refurbished straight from the manufacturer. spend as much money you can on speakers and forego buying the nicest amp and head unit.....you're not going to be able to tell the difference in amps/head units to the degree you will be able to tell the difference in speakers. remember the cost for installation as well.....this is absolutely critical.
go for a single sub so you can spend as much money on speakers. you can always add speakers but replacing cheap-ass speakers will be costlier in the long run. think about what you might want in a system in a year or two and plan for that. i made some big mistakes in choosing my equipment and didn't think about what i eventually wanted. this is why I have a closet filled with basically an entire system other than subs.
but i guess this is good for my sister...i'm giving her my entire system

I am originally from bolingbrook, but now I live in redneck illinois, 250 miles south of Chicago..nice and quiet, but boring.I have a 2003 neon.. so I think what I am putting in will work, not much room for anything more..I am in medical school for the next 5 years, when I am done and get a bigger car i will put a rhidiculous system and get her done as they say down here. i think the mtx sledgehammer 7512 and the ta7801 will be nice in this little ass car..maybe I will add some 8 inch subs later when I come into more money. I had 6 factory speakers that sound pretty good.do I need to get 6x9 now, or can it wait? I am getting a kenwood which is 50x4 or 22 rms. I mean seriously, the 6 speaker system is pretty impressive for factory..will it make a driffierence in sound or not. Recommended 6x9? Pioneer, Alpine, Rockford, or kenwood?
