My car stopped on me for the second time while i stopped in a parking lot. I kept the car on, because i was waiting for some1, and still bumping to my music. All of a sudden when i shift it to drive, gas pedal wouldn't go. It says VOLTS in my dash. What does this mean? I just upgraded my alt. to a 160amp alt. HIfonics 1606 pushing 2 Type Rs at 1ohm. Second battery in the trunk. (no isolator)This happened to me twice and only happens when i stall the car for a few minutes. New battery? Loose connections? Capacitor? I want a true answer. I don't want something like "try a new battery, if that dont work get a new cap, if that don't work upgrade your alt again"Does any1 know why this is happening?

sounded like it overheated bro, or you have some emissions control crap acting up. You should querry the CPU to find error codes and go from there.

have you cheked, if on idle, the alt is crharging correctly ? alo check the batt posts and negs, a loose conection would not allow the batts to charge correctly....get a volt meter and check if your voltage drops when this happens....

depending on the alt...you might only be getting 30/40 amps at idle at 160 at 2400 or something...if thats the case then when your idling your batteries aren't getting charged enough and when you get ready to go the car doesn't have enough battery reserve to either shift gears or to tell the alternator to charge

x2 a car shouldnt turn off while bumping.... if it turns off then it it would not start back up, if it was teh battery or electrical. of corse its gonna say volts also when it dies cause the engine aint turning..... so take it to a mechanic and get it checked out. no one on this forum is gonna be able to tell you what it is. if its turning of and turning back on again....

thats not always true.
An old coworker of mine had an 03 eclipes with 2 1000/1s and 2 12w7s along with 2 optima yellow top batterys, an alumapro C.A.P. 15 farad capacitor. I'm not sure if he had an upgraded alternator or not though. Anyways we would sit there and talk and I would have him crank the stereo up. Well after about 45 seconds the cars engine would stop running, so he would turn off the radio and the car would start right back up. He did this for me at least 5 times.

sometimes upgraded alts put out less than a stock alts amperage at idle. This coupled with the fact that you are sitting there pulling more juice from the charging system than it has on tap and then you hit your brakes which causes an even bigger electrical demand, which may have cause the electrical system voltage to drop below 9.6 volts which is when most electrical items in a car stop operating including ECMs.
best way to diagnose it would be to do an amperage test on your alternator to see how many amps its putting out at idle, if it is too low then you can install a smaller diameter alternator pulley to spin it faster at idle.
of course that will only work if your belt tensioner can handle it.
