dumb question and im sure its very install dependant, but I am going to a comp this sunday that meters outlaw, and I have a friends that are some of the topped ranked DB dragers in the world, but dont have any idea on outlaw.
I hope a few people on here can tell me what works best for them, i only get 1 30sec run.

depends. outlaw may mean that you can put the mic anywheres you want. other times could be the mic in the kick and your allowed to open doors and such.

Should probably go with the mic in the kick on the passenger side, your note will be different outlaw vs dash, usually 4-8hz higher.

and the windows up.... also try the mic in the pass. kick with both doors open and mic in the pass kick with the pass door open and finally mic in the kick windows and doors closed.
i've seen different vehiles do different things if you have a chance try them all if not i would try windows up in the kick drivers door open

There is NO sactioned USACI show that would alow that. Look at the rules..
About the placement. When I was judging usaci spl and I was asked this I would always suggest the kick pannel normally in the passanger side. Then open the door opposite or roll the window down a tad etc. Takes some playing. I know with my Cavalier...it was loudest with the doors closed and the sun roof just slightly cracked. I also had a wall.
Like you said can be install dependent..

It is very dependent on the install, my truck is the loudest with the mic in the passenger kick with the windows up and the passenger door wide open.

Or mention USACI
Driver door open and mic in the passenger kick would probably be best. Tahoe right? Meade should know I think he's metered himself "Outlaw style" and has a Tahoe.

Whoa, look who came back out from the grave! Sup Al aka LUCKY!!
Well Everyone has pretty much answered what outlaw is and what is a legal outlaw microphone placement. I did outlaw pretty much all my car audio competition years. Only way my truck would meter up really. Rule of thumb, if your dash frequancy is say 45hz, your kick frequancy is anywhere from 4-8hz higher. Some vehicals especially a suburban or something like that has a lower resonant frequancy so you might wanna try a few hz lower then your dash freq. unless you dont know what your dash freq is then all you can do is go out and try 2-3 different burps and hope for the best. Good Luck, and remember........just go out to have fun!

REALLY he didnt? WOW I didnt read that when I posted.
I never said he did say this. But I can assue you if he said a legal dash position someone would have brough up drag.
If the rules are that lax...hell let me play. I would put it in front of a port. That simple or build something to take advange of what the rules are.

i think some people confuse the word "outlaw" with "port wars".....
My tahoe meters loudest in the driver kick with the passenger door open but its less than a full DB off my highest legal dash score. Some people gain BIG from dash to kick but my tahoe doesnt. (well .9 IS big but it isnt 9 ) Also, my note doesnt change from dash to kick.....maybe a different box might have that effect but my current setup doesnt.
good luck.

I didnt say in the port. I said in front of the port. That used to legal in outlaw and if its not a sactioned event. I built a box just for the class where the port fired at the mic and would do a 165...when the normal outlaw we thing..would do a 155.
So I think some people are just plain confused.
Its a simple question with NOT a simple answer with all considered.

I saw some guy at nopi nationals with that goofy satilite dish mic with the cage around it putting his right next to the port during usac competition.

i wasnt singling you out .....and BTW i think "In front" of the port is still "port wars". The mic IN the port or box itself is super portwars. Maybe the globe is on one and not the other i dunno. Im not into it nor do i pay one second of attention to the port wars segment of a USAC show, so i could be wrong though.

Port war= Sensor in the globe, globe anywhere in the box or right at the mouth of the port.
Super port war= Sensor out of the globe, anywhere in the box, or at the mouth of the port.
Of course you have to be able to put the sensor or the globe in the box through the port. You can't take a sub out and drop it i, and re-install the sub.
