Hex aluminum former (patent pending) for better cooling and lower mms for any given rigidity/strength. 10 layer very high temp voice coil The wire itself is rated for 250C sustained 300C peak, the adhesive used maintains full strength until 600C. 1mm thick copper sleeve on the entire pole .5mm thick sleeve on the top plate ID Both sleeves lower inductance and distortion to an extremely low level 3" OD N42 neo magnet Underhung design with the most xmax of any 6.5" driver
Xmag is 23mm Xsus is 22mm where the surround comes to a screeching hault, makes some noise as a warning, and if you push it too far it would be the first thing to break. The surround has very little influence to the kms curve until about 20mm after which it quickly becomes the dominating restoring force.
The 5.75" diameter spider will give quite a nice looking kms curve, I suspect the best of any 6.5" or 8" in production at the moment.
It sounds *modeless* at least until 4 khz and still sounds quite good full range. We will get full FR and distortion measurements in a week or 2 when we get the first production baskets in… I figure you guys would appreciate this beast .

The funny thing though is its a midwoofer I wouldn't use it for sub duties though at home in a 2.2 cuft box tuned to 45hz... mmmmmm Nearly 120dB of output to 45hz out of a pair of towers at one meter full range... It was designed to have awesome midrange quality... just with a ton of xmax and sensitivity. Think PHL on steroids.

PHL on steroids is a big statement...I have some 2520s that are badassed.

Yea we happen to be big fans of PHL High efficiency is your friend! I was talking more along the lines of 1220 the 2520 is an 8" with shockingly high efficiency... Its like 3% or something… This motor used on an 8” would be closer to 2%... The design concept behind this mid was to lower the mms as much as possible without compromising quality, liberal use of shorting rings to lower inductance and distortion, that thick (sturdy) very well vented former, a 10 layer voice coil that in essence acts as a fan at the expense of needing a MASSIVE magnet to power this motor. We figured: Why be cheapskates? Do it right!

Sure is! Though the preorder should start within the next week or so... (when we update the webpage)
There is also a shallow mount (~2.75" I don't remember exactly) that will be in production in about 3 weeks or so -- the deep one (3.8") will take 2-3 weeks longer (needs the custom basket)... though the sooner you are on the preorder the sooner you will get the mid
Don't hold us too strictly to those time frames since we are depending on others for parts and you all know how the industry can be... Those are just the time frames we are expecting to be working on.
Its no fun being the little guy with no capital to throw around or we would be coming out with the mids, tweeters, and subwoofers all at once... Though this will allow us to start on the tweets/subs -- BTW we are our own build house and we are shooting to break the industry mold.

Thanks! I’m sure Matt will love to hear that one . Some people were saying its not beefy enough for the looks of the motor... Though now people are saying they like the look -- so who knows... I say we are likely going to keep the basket that way (8 spoke branching into 16 spoke 1/8" spokes) instead of going to 3/16 or 1/4" -- It makes the rear wave a little more free of interference and makes the driver lighter for shipping/your door. It gets the job done that is for sure!
"Am I the only one who likes it with the spokes? The hex former and open spokes give it this really unique look. Like it was stripped down of excess weight and anything unproductive, kind of like that stuff NASA launches into space all the time. If you don't keep the basket, I want a custom pair with them!" -- a member on another forum
Unless there is a surge of people demanding the thicker spokes and they are willing to pay a few extra bucks the basket stands as it is (just cast instead of welded... lol Matt decided to do that for rapid prototyping and will never do it again...)

The surround starts making noise at that point since it is reaching its limit and it comes to a screeching halt right after.
In this case xmax happens to be the same as where the suspension starts making mechanical sounds... and after which point warranty is void... This is hardly a normal driver
