This isn't why one would choose a Fluke over another brand of DMM - I'm sure that even the $9.99 ones that Rat-Shack offer will be close. Rather, a great multimeter can do so much more:
-Measure RMS A/C voltage, not peak voltage -record minimum voltage over time -record average voltage over time -record maximum voltage over time
are but a few that come in hand for car audio.

My fluke 77 is going strong after 3 or 4 years. If I could do it again I would have bought the next one up with a peak hold function.

I have a bunch of different meters, all the way from a cheap 4.99 meter to two channel scopes. I find that the meter I use depends on what I am using it for.
For a simple everyday meter I recommend a Craftsman meter that is $20. Pick up 2 of these and most testing is covered.Meter Good all around GP meter. Pair this with their AC/DC Clamp Meter for $50 and you have a decent place to start.
I know that Fluke makes great stuff, I am just saying that these meters are a good place to start your career
