OK I have a 1991 Isuzu Rodeo with 2 JBL bp1200.1's running at 1 ohm each. Last night I was showing a few friends and I turned it up past where I usually listen to it to show what it could really do, and my lights dimmed real bad and once I felt the car struggle to keep going so I immedietly turned it down.

I have an optima yellow top under the hood and the big 3 done in 0 gauge. Am I going to have to fork over the cash for a new alt, or should I just add an extra battery or 2?

Keep in mind my car only does these things when I really let it rip showing friends or whatever it may be. It happens when the volume is way beyond causing pain so it's not like I ride around with it like this everyday. I almost feel like if I had these amps powering say like 1 12" sealed instead of my 2 15HC's ported my car wouldnt be doing this even with the same power. Anyway, what do you guys think is in order here?

the best thing to do would be to upgrade to a ho alt, assuming that you still have the stock alternator. It wouldnt be enough to power both 1200.1s at 1 ohm. and maybe an extra battery.

Oh yea I forgot my alternator right now is a 115 amp compared to the stock 80 amp I had before. So electrical is as follows:

115 amp alternator
1 Optima Yellow Top
Big 3 in 0 gauge

actually, my honda used to do that when i had 2 bd1500's on the stock alt. It would literally almost kill the car and make it lurch hard when those RPM's dropped...i hadn't done the "big three" yet and all that power was being sucked thru that little 8ga alt wire/chassis ground. As soon as i did the upgrade, it stopped doing that. Of course i eventually got a bigger alt but the big 3 upgrade stopped my engine from "stalling" or "lurching" while i was doing 45mph down the street.

Try it. [Smile]

Yeah you must have serious problems. I had 2 JBL 1200's on my stock system with 2 180.2's also and 2 RF Power HX2 12's and I could slam mine all day with no problems or dimming. I didn't even do the big three yet. I just had a Red Top under the hood and 2 in the trunk with the stock 85 amp alternator. Don't worry about the ported to sealed, 2 15's will not make the amps draw more than 1 12" sealed. Adding a new alternator and some batteries will help

I think you are the first person that has ever said -1 ha ha ha

But yes, invest in a bigger alt, and make sure all your connections are secure.
