Time to figure out how to get the plexi in the front opening......i used a 1" window for this box. Only trouble is, the wood is 3/4MDF so i had to compensate for that when building the "frame" it will sit in. (notice the 1/4" "Shim")

After the shim is made and dropped into place, its not over yet, a 2nd frame (3rd if you count the shim) needed to be built but a little bigger so ill have something to fasten the plexi to.

 -

 -

 -

 -

Should be tight when i finally get to pull the protective paper off the plexiglas....but for now it stays. That little 9" x 45" x 1" window was $85 and i damn sure dont wanna scratch it. [Big Grin]

My dayjob is, im a Project Engineer for a commercial roofing company (standing seam metal, single ply PVC/TPO, rubber (EPDM) but no hot tar [Razz] ). We do only big buildings like schools, high rises, hospitals, Targets, Walmarts etc....I basicly am a draftsman, I use CAD to draw roof plans, elevations, and details and submit them to the Architect for approval before our crews can go out and put down the product. I do lots of other stuff but thats the basics....

Lookin good on the install

For my shop in the basement I bought a shop vac, various PVC pipes and fittings, elbows, tees, and ball valves. Craftsman makes a thing that you plug into a wall, plug a tool into it and plug a vac into it. When there is a current load on the tool part it automatically flips a relay and powers the vac. neat thing to have but not needed. A remote control would also be useful but again, not needed.

Basically my setup goes in a 'L' shape along 2 walls. it terminates at the corner and where the collector is attached... more on that later The other end has an elbow pointing downwards, a ball valve and then pipe which goes to the floor where I can sweep dust into the area and it sucks it up. Along the way I have 3 tees for various tools each with a ball valve to contain suction to only where I am working. I have one at my workbench which reduces down to a hose where I suck up various debris. I plan on making a downdraft collector on the side for sanding. I have another tee at my drill press which leads to a hose. I have another one at my scroll saw which has a connector for a dust collector, plumbed into that. I also have one at my router table.

For the dust collector I used a shop vac and a 5 gallon bucket. I forgot where I found it (probally ordered it off of a woodworking magazine) but it's a lid where there is 2 2.25" holes for shop vac hoses. I think I found some reducer things to size it correctly to the PVC but I don't think it would be too hard to make something like that You fill the bucket partially with water and it traps almost all of the fine dust and obviously large particles. The shop vac is attaced to it for suction and I don't even run a filter in it which is less restrictive and provides a little more suction.

That at least is my po' boy attempt that works well for my puropses. When I am able to invest in more tools I am going to buy a dedicated dust collector and plumbing.

Craftsman basically sells everything you would need, there are Jet and Delta versions of the same stuff but are a lot more expensive. Rule of thumb I guess is to plan it to reach every tool you would need it at while trying to keep it as short as possible.

Time to shift gears and head back to the amprack portion of the box. I had to prep it for the amp wiring and also fix the flanges on the sides.

 -

 -
Heres a good spot for some distribution blocks when the time comes to hook everything up. From here, the wires can drop down out of the truck and out to the HO alt up front (when i get it in of course)

Looking awesome so far [Cool] I love your last ride!

One thing...I always thought ports that small would not be enough area for a sub like the MT. I'm guessing you're not worried about port noise?

thanks....actually its pushing it on the port noise by being so small but i am using Aeroports so i think it will help. Plus they are all the way in the back. Its a girls car so she probably will never get it to the point of port noise being a problem, which i dont expect to be an issue anyway. I only use 110" of port on 4 18's and i cant hear any port noise at all so i think it will be fine. The tuning looks real good. I cant wait to hear it! Its gonna be a minute though, theres so much work involved in molding this thing into the truck i just gotta take it one day at a time and just do it right. Im rollin solo on this so its not exactly gonna go fast. Well when your talking this much resin/fiberglass, the word FAST doesnt come into play.

****id do a bigger port for my 18's but i cant, different story for a different post though [Wink]

That's cool [Smile] Maybe I'll re-learn what I've been taught...no port noise with 110sqin of port in a 20cuft box with 4 x 18"s that wang shouldn't make sense [Big Grin]

I'd love to hear that Tahoe install! Only a couple of guys over here with installs that come anywhere near that

It was at my old house however I think I still might have pics. I am almost positive I have the plans I sketched out for it which I will post up sometime soon... lots of people seem to be interested in dust collection so I might make a dedicated post in the near future

LOL this box may look rough and ugly but its ALREADY a very expensive box....
Anyone else notice the price of resin went up?

I had noticed the price of resin going up about 6 months ago. (at least around here)

I REALLY need to get a good digi cam. soon! I gotta show you some stuff I get to mess around with Steve. Knowing you man, you'd get some pretty sweet ideas. Not only that, but seeing how you have clients that can pay for premium work.... the possibilities are endless.
