I got the trash can/ router table idea from Rick Jones, formerly of Team Gates. (Last I heard he was with Dynamat.)

You take a 30gal trash can, make and over sized 3/4mdf top for it. (over sized meaning at least 2" lip of material all the way around.) Then apply wood blocks around the underside to make the new top FIT the can. Remove router base so you have a bolt hole guide. Drill holes. Mount router from the bottom.(use carage(sp) blots and recess them!) Make sure you cut enough of a hole around the bit for air to be pulled in as well. cut small notch for power wire.
Add MDF scraps to weight down NEW table!

Delux Version:

Cut hole in the upper 1/3 of the can to attach shop vac hose.

The top is removable so you still have a trash can.

Same technique can be used to make a jig saw can. You cut the scraps over the trash can so you never have to pick them up. Use TOp making method from above. Cut a 10" rough hole in the center of this top. Off to the side of this top you cut out an area just longer and just wider than your jig saw. Then apply 2 strips of MDF to the under side of the new opening, leaving a space in the center. So you end up with a depressed cradel for your saw, with a 1/4" center spaced opening for the blade.

Just a few shop hints, from an old man..

Thanks guys, I have done quite a bit in a very small shop. If you want a good dust collector for the money.

http://www.oneida-air.com/products/systems/2hp_super_gorilla/main.htm

I have the 1.5hp system. I had it set up inside (exhaust port inside as well, got to keep my heat.) a portible building for a while. Yea, me, my tools, and the dust collector inside 12x20. It was a little loud but the dust was not a problem.

Hope this helps.
