My tailgate on my isuzu rodeo will no longer open. I tried switching my box around so my subs face right against the tailgate and now it will not open. I think the rattling/vibration broke something in there. Anyone have any tips or ideas on how to fix this without going to the dealer and spending $? I have tried taking the panel off but it sort of overlaps with the floor of the car and the only way to get it off is if the tailgate is open laying down. Also I can't move my box without the tailgate open so it makes it kind of hard. Thanks.

same thing happened to my jeep! i had to take it to the dealer though, couple hundred down the drain i would recommend trying to get back there yourself to see if anything is loose. a lot of the time the panels just pop off

Well I just tried to get the panel off for like 30 minutes and the thing will not get all the way off without the tailgate opening. I can get the top part off barely enough to fit the handle part of a screwdriver in there (not a lot). Not anywhere enough to get my hand down there to the handle. Oh yea when I said I couldn't move the sub box I kind of worded it wrong, I meant I can't get it out of the trunk in order to work from the inside.

I had the same problem. I noticed there was a bracket behind the key lock of my tailgate(4runner). So I took a skinny metal bar to hold the backing in place, while I used my key to open the tailgate.
When I got my tailgate openened, I took off the panel, and managed to get to the tailgate locking system. I found a loosened nut, where the nut was used to hold up the bracket behind the key lock of the tailgate. Got the nut back in place, tightened it up, made sure the other nuts were tight. And that solved my little dilema, probably saved me a few hundred bucks, since dealers love to rape car owners.
