I have a 2000 Explorer with the 5.0, and I have pulled small boats with it, but I would not attempt much more than that wih it. The rear suspension and brakes are just not beefy enough to do it safely.

I would have a 1/2 ton truck as a bare minimum if you plan on towing with it.

--------------------
I would post something of substance, but then it would just get deleted. - -

there are 2 different 4.0 v6 motors for that generation explorer.

one standard then there's the sohc, which the sohc has much more torque than the standard motor

Mine is the sohc with 5 speed automatic and the towing package. Seems to tow fine, although i've never tried to haul something like a super street vehicle with it.

You would need a truck license to drive it, its about 7400lbs. I wouldn't sell it to you anyways, its a pile of junk...

It is a really good looking truck, but I'm done with it. Pretty sure I just blew out the headgaskets for the second time in 34,000 miles.

the bottom setup was the loudest. Only deadening in the vehicle was the front doors and it was doing low-mid 155s on 2 amps at a high load. And substantially more on 4 amps loaded down.
