I really think that the price of new equipment to keep up with the competition year after year would outweigh the price of fuel. ie DD Z motor subs.

Some people are just moving to bassrace, and a smaller system. For example, Jay Thomson. Dropping for being near the US top Streetmax vehicles, he's now doing a fun project with a smaller system...but having fun and not being so restricted by dragging that heavy truck around. I'm not sure his reasons, but i'm sure in some way or another gas prices affected A decision.

eh for me it has actually nothing to do with gas.

i just got tired of working night after night on the truck, to get a 4 second burp out of it. got tired of showing off my system at home, only to say, "no sorry, i cant play that SONG"

i wanted to build a minitruck, which is the original reason i bought the nissan.

i didnt really downsize the equipment either. its getting all the same maxxsonics gear that was in the nismo, only differance really is the sealed box instead of a ginormous bandpass. and it'll actually play music.

oddly enough... i got BETTER gas mileage with the nissan!!!!

even as heavy as it was, that little 4 cyl engine did wonders. with the nissan fully loaded, and packed for a weekend of shows with tools, chargers, clothes, cooler, tent, etc... i could drive to cleveland and back on HALF a tank of gas. and that included competing all weekend. i would fill up when i left home, and have half a tank left, when i got back home.

the s10 is another story. i havent even put a build in this thing yet, and it gets half the mileage the nismo did. the dime has a 6cyl 4.3 i love the engine in this truck, but it takes 1/2 a tank t oget to cleveland and 1/2 tank to get home.

so with a smaller build and a lighter vehicle, i'm still using twice the gas, not to mention the higher prices.

but.. i'm traveling and going to shows whenever possible because i enjoy it !!!

the recent shows in cincinatti, dayton, and akron, were unreal on my wallet. i filled up when i left home. then filled up again at the evening show in fairfield. then drove to cleveland and filled up again. then drove to akron then back to cleveland, then topped off and back home.

gas ran me 220 for the weekend. and that was before we jumped to 4 bucks a gallon [Eek!]

but i'm not complaining.

i'm sure there will be some valid complaints from dbdraggers, and i think there will be some poeple who truly do quit due to gas prices.. but i think the majority are goign to kep right on doing what they do, because they enjoy it.

and in all honesty.... (and i know there are gonna be some who are gonna flame me for this.. probably because i'm talking about them) but i think that MOST people who quit, and blame it on gas prices.... are really quitting for other reasons, and simply using gas prices as a convenient excuse.

i remember when people were saying they were gonna quit if gas ever got to 3 bucks.. and look at us now.. paying 4..
