i don't think its illegal if you actually attach it to the box though.
Then it comes a mounting point for the enclosure

6-8k Temporary structural reinforcements to the vehicle are prohibited during competition. This includes attaching straps, suction cups, sand bags, etc. to the vehicle. However, pressing on the doors, windows, trunk and / or laying on the hood, roof, etc. is acceptable providing no other applicable rules are violated.
this is talkin about the outside of the vehicle.
No i dont think so it uses examples of reinforcing the outside but the rule states "Temporary structural reinforcements to the vehicle are prohibited during competition." Everything after this are merely examples. It doesnt specify inside or outside, so i would comprehend this rule as both inside and out. What about your situation doesnt fit under this rule? Duct taping wood is most certainly temporary, and the wood would fall under reinforcement. Everything this rules says you cant do, you are doing. Your gray area would be that it doesnt state inside or out. But then i believe the very last rule in the book states something along the lines of "Judges discretion." So in the end im sure every judge will tell you to remove this no questions asked at finals.
That does cover external mods, not internal mods.
Have ran before and will run again with ratchet straps inside a vehicle holding the rear doors shut.
Perfectly legal.

This was allowed in street class at a multi point event? Sounds odd to me. I know our local 4x certified judge wouldnt allow this.

Still allows the doors to open and theres nothing in the rules that says it cant be done.
Ran with them at many triples and EFs.

Was just proving a point about the above rule only being aplicable to the exterior.

Yuli dont get me wrong that im goin against your intentions..but here's my take
its in the part of the rules that talks about deadning the vehicle or panels and only allows maximum 2 layers of a certain thickness...sorry I cant quote the rules as its been way too long since I read them... but a 2x4 exceeds the allowed thickness even though it would only be 2 layers...one the duct tape... second layer the 2x4
so myself being a fellow competitor would also say its not legal and would expect any judge on our planet to not allow it... like some of the other guys said tho... make it a custom install... hint... if u need help with something like that just ask... I do fibreglass work which would most likely yield more gain than a 2x4... how I understand it you are looking for a place to mount a digital volt meter to monitor your voltage without screwing into the plastic panels of your car and damaging them

Peter im not sure what you are getting at with the 2 layer example? that only applies to sound deadening. 2x4 is not used to sound deaden anything, unless thats how u use them?
oh, and now i do think you are going against my intentions.
im not actually for any gain from the 2x4. i just want a custom panel, thats different from anyone else.

I'm thinking that the rule book.. kind of like stupid laws around here.. are very vague, and "Open to the opinion of the offical" as the D.A. told me.. lol Posts: 78 | From: Chilton, Wisconsin | Registered: Aug 2007
