I am leaving Sandusky Ohio going back to St Louis and leaving under a VERY strained situation at best. I broke up with the person I was with the last 3 years. I am seriously lacking funds and need to make it back on a donut. I know they are not made for this. It is on the same van in the signature. There is a wall in there but there is NO equipment and could leave the back seat here to save weight..since I cant really use it. I also have VERY few other things...like a few trash bags of clothes and MAYBE a tv. So not much weight.

What are my chances? If I get a tire up here its rather $$ compared to back in st louis. Getting a tire will also leave me with very little money. But if the risk is so great I have little choice. ANY help or advice is welcome.

I will be on all evening and my aim and yahoo name is proaudio150 and my ICQ# is 2757081.

Spare tires are designed to get you to a service center where you can purchase a new tire, and many are rated for a certain maximum safe distance and speed limit. Driving farther or faster than recommended on a temporary spare may be dangerous. Also be aware that because the spare is smaller than the other tires, driving on one will affect the vehicle's handling...

Locate a local wrecking yard, and get a tire/rim from there (one with good tread life remaining). I do not know the prices in Ohio, but down here it would set you back about 10 to 15 dollars. Note: Many full size GMC/Chevy truck rims will interchange with the Astro.

If you must use the "donut" spare tire, make sure it is mounted on the rear of the vehicle, so that you can have better control of the steering in case of a problem.

remember this:

iggy's head is massive. so you driving 50 miles on a spare is like him driving cross country with a donut. he may sound like he's giving good mod advice but he's really giving advice based on the cranium.

Am I reading correctly? Are there no TP Members in Ohio that could spare some cash to help get you a tire???? [Confused]

If someone out there could put up atleast $25 that you can get right away, I'll cut them a check.

Iggy will vouch for me. [Cool]

and i wouldnt risk driving on a donut anywhere... might cost you more if it goes flat say for a tow truck/repairs to what ever damage happens when it gets a flat.

guys thanks. I do appreciate the help or offer/trying to help.

If it was as simple as that I would get a tire money not an issue etc. But as it sits I will have $100 for about 2 weeks for everything. So literally every penny counts. I will do more looking tomorrow at junk yards and what not see what I come up with.

Was thinking about getting a used 17 inch used tire but not sure I can match the EXACT size. Meaning I am sure I can find a 17 inch...but may have to get a 205 vs the 215's on there..or a 50 series vs a 45 thats on there. I know its not perfect...but that should last till I can get to st louis and last there 2 weeks....vs the donut and vs having no money to eat on...

Rob, if i wasnt without a job (once again) Id gladly wire you $50 to help you with your trip back to St. Louis. Unfortunately I myself is down to the last $100 to my name so I know exactly were you are at financially. As for the dohnut, steal a wheel/tire if you need to. Just leave them the dohnut with a note. Most junkyards will sell a perfectly good steel wheel with enough tread on the tire to get you from Sandusky to San Fransico! If they want more then $5 tell em thats all you have is $5 and tell em some sad story, it might work, did for me when i was out in your neck of the woods 4 years ago.

Good Luck to ya. Hope your trip is safe.

I just wanted to say thanks for the offers of help. Through many suggestions on here on a couple of ims I got this morning. I am going to try and make it to a junk yard and see what I can do.

I might not get a PERFECT size one to replace what I have on there but at least it should be better then the donut. It snowed again last night but should not affect me to much the roads look clear this morning. I will be making my way to the OTHER shop to get the gas tank on the van fixed.

Hope everyone has a good day.

You are in HOUSTON...population????

I am in SANDUSKY...there is VERY little here compared to where you are. Yes there is tire shops...yes there is junk yards. But this is not the type are area that has alot of lowered vans with what is an odd size rims for an area over run with farm equipment and pickups. So sure for that type tire...TONS. For a 215 45 17...not so many...I looked.

I do...but I dont expect anything like that. Proaudio150@hotmail.com is the address.

Lol seriously...I am getting a tire from the place doing my gas tank also.

Wow..thats another story. Getting the tank fixed. Thought its funny watching some people look at the van...their lift...the van...probably the lift again..and then say "I dont think it will work." Still wondering why in the hell its lowered...much less why there is a wall in there. Least I was able to find humor in this all...

Glad to hear that you had a safe trip, or at least a semi-safe trip.

What happened with the brake issue?
