So DLP is not as good? I was under the assumption that it was one of the better technologies out there today.......back to the drawing board to do some research

whats wrong with dlp technology? i am looking at a panasonic dlp right now and think i will go with it. it seems to be the best option at this point.
plasma has a lifespan that cannot be extended for 200 bucks and can be susceptible to burn in. those 2 factors alone made dlp the choice for me.
lcd cant be gotten in as large of sizes and still has issues with viewing angles.
dlp is pretty cheap and shows a picture that is not any less than any other technology at this point, if you are super anul im sure you could find some issue with it. i havent seen any of the rainbow affect to this point.
definitely look at the stretch on different brands of tvs, i have heard some bad things about stretch on samsungs, panasonic looks very good when stretched.

DLP is one of the best technologies out there and was and will be my choice again. The samsung sets are nice we sell more mitsubishi sets at work but samsungs are our #2 seller. Alleycat if you are looking that the 50 inch panasonic DLP get it, I have it and love it. There only downfalls are only one HDMI connection and when you shut them off the fan that runs for aminute to cool the bulb is loud according to some but doesnt bother me.
Cliffnotes, go with the 2nd one and dont get a refurb unless you are getting an extended warranty, like pit said its only 200 bucks.
how big of downgrade is the PT-61LCX65 (non-DLP). I can pick it up for 1850 through partnership with work (or the 52 inch for 1450.
Alternative is the 56 DLP for 2150.
What you think? I typically just watch tv programming...and alot of sports, not much on movies..yet.

Picture quality wise you probably wont lose alot. One of the main benefits of the DLP is it is a lamp based projection. So if the bulb goes out no big deal it consumer replaceable, now have a similar problem with the lcd like the PT and its not gonna be a fun or cheap task to take care of. I have seen the 52 inch version, not the 61 though. Pretty good looking set IMO and at those prices its a smoking deal.

we sell DLP's, LCD and Plasmas at our shop. From looking at the picture provided it doesn't show you have deep the tv is. Usually about 18-24" deep.
We sell LG, Pioneer, Hitachi and Zenith. Just from my observation, a $1,700 DLP has poor picture quality compared to other types for lets say $2k
IMO
