My name is Quincy. I'm certified (basic). Passed basic test last month. Wanting to make this a career. I ready to learn. Fast learner when it comes to this. I don't have any retail exp. but I've done alot of friends cars. I've called the best buys in my area and they are all over booked with installers. At least that was what I was told by the service managers at each store. Ive been wanting to do this for a very long time now. I wold like to open my shop one day, but if I don't, then as long as I'm doing what I love to do that is installs, then I'll be happy. I live in Georgetown, Tx.
Experience: Audio I have it down pretty well. I've also done 1 overhead flip dvd player and remote start in my wife's car.

Good luck. I would get workin on experience in remote starts.
Have you thought about working at somewhere like best buy as sales and wait till an opening comes up in install? Thats how a lot of people get into the bay.

yes i warned a few people about this industry some open shops and went out of business within 6mos to a year the economy climate is not right and won't be for another 2-3 years if at all.
you should talk to the vast and growing number of people out of work in this field right now.
my comments come from real time experience, going from a shop owner of 6 stores in three states
now Mfg it's good advice! again car audio is a luxury item in hard times people don't buy it, and we have two more year of hard time coming.

I am out of work in the audio industry due to the current economic situation here in the US. I've looked and looked for a shop to take me, but none of them can afford anymore people on the payroll. They are cutting down the hours of the current employees that they have as it is. It's going to be tough to get a job in the field so if you do hang on to it!

i am honestly still trying to understand how you say you have all these dealers all over the country but I've never seen a single quad or crunk audio product at any of the hundreds possibly thousands of shops I've been to

This industry is dying. It's easy to say it's not when your shop is doing good. Locations that are not really affected by the Economy and Internet. 65% of autosound shops have gone under since 2004 and that percentage is climbimng fast.
find another profession unless you want to do it on the side or on your own. The private industry has gone to sh-t,good luck in being treated well. Find a good paying government job,if you're lucky lol.

Very well put Terry. Terry knows first hand as do I. I even got out almost 2 years ago. I got out of DB Drag totally after finals 07. It is a dying industry and a dying sport. Nobody can keep spending extra money on remote starts or systems when they had to deal with high gas prices for awhile, heating bills, food bills etc. Now gas is down but the toll that it took wiped out alot of peoples ability to afford thier homes. So in all it took out housing, credit and will continue for some time. Dont get me wrong there is still people that want it done as I do some for certain people still but overall people dont have the money to buy toys when they have to worry about thier jobs future and losing thier homes. Good luck I hope you can find a good job and keep it but your best bet is look into something else. Go for the oil companies, gas and electric companies.
