No Best Buy is closing their install bays. Some stores have closed a few days a week when it is slow but they are not getting out of the car audio business.

I know where your buddy got his info from tsk tsk.
Murph is correct with his statement (we autotech's miss you buddy). Any company in these times who thinks "its biz as usual" is crazy.

hate to inform u but b.b. and f.s have no intention of closing down the install bays. i have worked here since 00 and know the head guys very well. after talking to them about these tough times, b.b. has in place certain back up plans to help the company through the hard times, (this isent our first resession) it includes cutting back hrs, tightning there policy belts, and ensuring that everything is done to keep the good employees jobs secure. the install bays make excellent profit for the company. and there is no talk of closing down any bays... period. now if there is a market that, over the yrs, has shown poor results then now would be a good time to shut it down, but for no other reason. in tough times good companies stand strong, and in good times good companies share the rewards. that is the strengh that b.b has and i for one applaude there ethics.
