Ready to pay? You take the practice test on ETK. It's under certifications. Once you pss the test print the voucher. Then go to www.mecp.com and set up a test date. That voucher pays for the test.
Yes you get a raise for MECP. It's a new job code.

Need MECP but worked under the table at a few shops.......know my way around HU's, amps, subs, componants etc. Don't know jack about glassin' or alarms.
Wouldn't be till Nov. 08

murph why is it that best buy doesnt have a wood shop? i know the store i work at every single installer there can/has built boxes, and 2 know how to glass, it just isnt smart not to allow stores to. i am also transfering to a new store and i know they wont have it either and that is going to be a barry/jill store.

Its all about insurance! To do 'custom work' properly a seperate controlled enviornment room with storage is needed (granted many shops don't have that-but I degress) as well as proper safety gear for the workers. Thats big $$$. Plus it has to serviceable at any store if the need arises. I think you get the idea.
We all know the future is services...hell install was the companies savior years ago. Trust me there are folks behind the scenes who remember this and are trying to change things (ie The Tech support Line for example). Talk it over with your services manager-you may have to make a personal investment like I did in the tools to do it-but you never know. Like many I'm tired of loosing $$$ to local shops who can build simple boxes, while all I can offer is a 'one size may not fit all'

Like I said before, OSHA will shut you down if you get caught without the right shop equiptment. There are BBY's out there breaking the law. Out of sight out of mind I guess.

Good point Murph, but there are a lot of shops out there don't have the proper equipment. I was with a retailer that was inspected by OSHA...not very pretty. The fines for the violations found at that 1 shop was multiplied by every shop in that region!! - to the tune of $250K. For a small chain that hurt a lot.
Now its my understanding that OSHA just doesn't do spot checks (though they can)-they basically respond to complaints. So for those out there doing it...i wish u well.

around here not so qualified. they put a guy in the bay at a new store here that wired decks into the wall wrong, no tools, and so on. otherwise ive been happy installing at bby.

I've been thinking of getting back into the installing scene. I worked with CC for almost 11 years, started in sales, then went to the Roadshop and was an assistant there till I left. I've been doing installs on the side and done some big installs with a friend of mine from time to time but I want to work more regularly on vehicles.
Maybe I need to check out the Daytona BB and see if they need help. Hmmm...
