Iam 21 years old and Iam getting fed up of working sh*t jobs for crappy pay and hating what I do. My dream job has always been working at a car audio shop and now that Iam getting older I feel if I actually want to get into this I need to do it now. My question for you guys who are professional installers is, how should I go about getting into this? I have some knowledge (installed all of my stereos) of car stereo's but not nearly enough to get hired at a shop. What is a reccomended school to go to to get the best education. Like I said I know some stuff but I would pretty much need to start with the basic's. Please if anyone who has gone through this could set me on the right path to going into this carreer it would be greatly apreciated. Thanx,
Brian

I probably wont go until this fall, due to the fact Iam broke after buying my rims. Remember I have very little knowledge of car audio. I mean I can install amps and subs and stuff but not much beyond that. Would the Mobile Dynamics school be a good place for me to start out at? Any others that might be better for me? How hard is it to get hired after you have gotten your education?

If you are tired of crappy jobs with no pay, then you really don't want to be an installer...

Best advice I can giveis save your money on going to a car audio school, and get a job at best buy or circuit city. I work at circuit right now, and i know that they hire people right now with NO car audio experience. Schools are great, but you cant beat hands on experience. We have a few people that have gone to mobile dynamics, but they still dont know how to do day to day installs do to the fact that they dont have experience. I know 3 people that have went to mobile dynamics, and none of them could even do a remote starter or alarm on their own afterwards. 2 of them didnt even know what one wire doorlocks were. As far as pay goes, dont expect to make alot of money installing, im not saying that you cant make alot.......but most installers out there make 8-11 bucks/hr.

Not much of that is true. Sure there are a few dumb asses that made it to/though the school, I was there and saw many. Right now, Im also waaaay above your suggested $8-11, complete with excellent benefits and tons of vacation time. Cant beat it. Posts: 518 | From: SW Chicago, IL | Registered: Oct 2000

I went to Installer Institute in February of this year. I learned sooooo much and had a great time. I would definitely suggest going there. The best part is, Fishman Riverra is now doing the advanced fabrication portion of the course. Definitely worth the money and the time. If you have any questions, send me a private message or email me or just reply to this post. I'd be more than happy to tell you anything about the course.
