Hi all!! After I finish my school here in boston (Berklee College of Music) I am planning on moving out to AZ to start a new life! I want to do something in high end/custom audio installation. I have an extensive background in fiberglass work, smaller background in audio installations, but definitely know what things are supposed to sound like! (music production and engineering major). I will be attending Mobile Dynamics in Phoenix for a first class MECP cert, but would like to find a job to start that one years experience i need to grab the actual printed cert! Anyone out there that would be willing to give me a chance? I wont be out there for quite a while...like 8-9 months, but i need to start the search now! Thank you all!!

I had heard that there were a few manufacturers out there. MBQuart which used to be based about 15 minutes from where i live now, has been moved out to Arizona from what i was told at Hot Import Nights, due to Rockford Corp acquiring them. One of my acoustics teachers has an "in" with MB so I thought i might try to follow up with that. Since you are from the area...can you tell me what its like to live over there? Is it a fast paced lifestyle...or kinda laid back? I hear its ultra hot...but a dry hot. Sorry for all the Qs...I'm just getting really really excited about moving!

lifestyle is more laid back, not really
fast paced. it does get very hot out here
but doesn't take long to adjust to.

the night life in tempe is good cuz of asu.
and in scottsdale the night life is good but
a little more for upper class then regular folk,
especially the north scottsdale area.
any questions feel free to ask.
oh yeah and why AZ????

Thats sweet! As for why AZ....well, when I first wanted to get into working in mobile entertainment, my boss mentioned to me that he had worked with Bose for 8 years networking them around the world. He gave me the name of the cheif engineer of the OEm division over there, and i took a tour. The place was absolutely awesome. But I want out of the cold. So one of my teachers and I were talking and he used to design systems for Bose in the OEM division (working for car manufacturers like Nissan, mercedes, etc.) and we got to talking about MB Quart, who used to be based right outside of boston, in Norwood. When i was at Hot import nights in Atlantic City, I stopped into the MBQuart booth to talk to the "man in charge" about the goings on in Norwood. He told me about Rockford Corps acquisition of MBQuart, and they were now in AZ, so I wanted to move where MBQ was...because my boss said he might have an "in" there. Now, Arizona just looks sooooo appealing to me, and come to find out, there are MANY mfctr's of mobile audio products in phoenix/tempe. So, I am hoping to get a job with someone out there, and start a new life where there is NO snow!!! [Smile] Thats my main concern...no snow and flat roads.

mr2, heres a helpful hint to save you money, dont waste your time with mobile dynamics they dont teach you much and they just help you cheat on the test in order to get you to pass. your best bet is to apply at a major electronics store, bestbuy, circuit city, audio express, or where i install at Ultimate Electronics. we get mobile dynamics graduates in here trying to find jobs but we end up turning their apps down because they dont even know how to take dash's apart or problem solve. havent met a good mobile dynamics graduate yet. your best bet is to buy the mecp study guide for 30 bucks and take the test from that.
G/L man.

It sounds to me like you degree would have you working more with speakers not amps. The car audio manufactures that are in AZ do all their amp work in AZ and have other plants in other states for the Speakers. Something to check into. The car audio industry seams to pay lower then other industry’s.

Actually, I am starting to think about doing a straight out competition installation thing. Mainly SQ comps. All custom stuff, and all fun stuff. I wanna be in AZ cause of the weather, actually...I have had it with cold weather. I am tryin with Berklee to get a job setup with any company first, before I try install places. I already bought both Basic and 1st class MECP installer books and have read both of them at least 3 times. I'm all set for either exam. And yeah...with my major I would be more apt to work on speakers. You say most companies send their speaker work elsewhere? Do you know where?

Thanks!
CHris
