since bass race is more about reaction time and control.... why the ban on burned cd's?
ie: why not just allow any music selection, provided its actually on a cd, and playing from the headunit/changer...
why does it have to be a purchased cd?
is there a reason behind it?
just curious.
it'd be nice to be able to use my burned cd's
the only reason i can think of is that people might modify the music. ie: add in more bass notes, enhance the bass lines, crew/chop the music etc... but, even so, its still their reaction time & control that matters.
i'm highly considering rebuilding my car with 16 - 10's or 12 - 12's for bass race, after my truck is completed. but i really dont want to run out and buy up ever conceivable cd just to be able to test it / run it through the lanes.

I don't think its all reactiopn time. If I could burn a cd then it would just be a test tone at 47hz. This class is for the kids that don't have a mic at home and just like to play NORMAL music.
I am also sure that the record companies would like it better if people actually bought the cds!

Basically yeah, I could record a 50 hz tone in the background of a song, and hold a REALLY consistant volume level through the whole round.
The fact that your stuck to music that varies in note and volume, etc. adds to the "skill" needed

If you dont think it is about reaction time you might want to do some averages math again . for example lets say that with the song I use my truck is capable of averaging 155db for 30 seconds with a perfect start now lets do that same average spl with a 1/2 second off start 152.4 and with a 1 second delay it is 149.8
155 spl times 29.5 = 4572.5 divided by 30 = 152.4
155 spl times 29 = 4495 divided by 30 = 149.9
even in the lower classes where people are holding a little back If they time their start late they may not have the ability to recover because too many zeros are averaged in even with full blast they might not make that 9.9 in their respective class.
Bass Race is the bomb becase it does not take the most money with the mose minds building it to win. Basically it has a " Driver " element that makes or breaks you. Anyone can go out and press one little button within 30 seconds.

why start at 30 seconds or 29 seconds?
In testing at our shop I was able to do a consistant 129.3 starting at 27 seconds. We did this 5 times in a row.
Its not really about reaction time, its about controling the system to not break out of the desired class you wish to compete in.

Steve what was the true spl that your system is capable of? And as far as reaction time If I am trying to compete at the maximum threshold of my system Reaction time is everything. Over 150 baby!.

i realize that bass race is about music. that's why i like the format so much...
the above answer is exactly what i was looking for. that helps me understand the "no burned cd's rule"
i was forgetting we dont live in an "honest" world.. lol... when "i" think about burned cd's i simply mean MUSIC i downloaded.. and burned onto cd's.
i wasn't thinking about the folks that would put a solid tone in the background, enhance the bass , etc....
thanks....
i just couldn't figure why the rule was in place, but that pretty much sums it up right there.

i use magic mike "feel the bass" for bass race
started using it last year.
but, i dont have an original cd. its burned.
that's why i was wondering about burned cd's being aloud lol
some of the old "miami style" bass music is great. but its REAL hard to come across an original. let alone, an original that's not beat to hell

it doesnt have to have lyrics, is just has to be commercially available music, not just a test tone, or sweep, but something with music (not all music has words)
