Ah, ok. Point well taken. So in KOB's (I hate to keep making the reference, but...) truck the sealed section tunes low and the "ported" section tunes high right?

in a bandpass the ported section size is more for efficiency than anything. The tuning of the enclosure will depend mostly on the size of the sealed chambers.

Im starting mine on the large side. I have 3.03 cubes sealed per woofer. Which IMO as is will play super super low. Too low infact for most music. So im going to have to shrink the sealed portions quite a bit. Or maybe my diamond (port) larger which will give me more efficiency aswell and raise my tuning into a more desireable level.

Problem is I designed my setup to accomodate the mounting depth of a 4HP based 18" woofer which id like to upgrade to eventually. Something like 12 Soundstream xxx 18s would be not bad. But the power and batts Id need to get them wangin wouldnt be cheap so I might re-do this design to give it more port area.

It will also make it easier to fit in the diamond to change woofers. As im 6'4 275 and not the most mobile guy haha.

yeah sealed chambers are going to be too big.

2.5 cubes is the biggest I'd go for sealed 18s

and the front chamber does play a part in tuning as well as the sealed chambers

tuning is just like a normal ported box

Longer port = tunes lower

shorter port = tunes higher

smaller port = tunes lower

larger port = tunes higher

its IDENTICAL to the ported enclosure except the sealed chambers also play a part in tuning

nothing lately unfortunately. Had some home/yard renos to do which meant putting the car back in the garage to have the driveway open for a 85 foot boom lift. Should start back up building in about a week im hoping.

Have my motor all built for the car tho just have to throw it in.

350 small block chevy 4 bolt main
30 over
10:1 compression
ported polished heads with some bowl work done
electric water pump
lunati 268 hydraulic cam
edelbrock airgap intake
edelbrock 650 carb
flowtech headers
2.5" true dual exhaust into dynomax ultraflow mufflers

Should make around 300-320 horsepower from my experience. I have a 150 shot of nitrous to throw at it aswell but there will really be no point. I just have to throw a shiftkit in my trans and bend up some new tailpipes as I have the exhaust dumping under the car right now. But cant make the tailpipes until I have my rear frame reinforced, airbags installed and battery rack figured out.

All in due time. [Smile]

havin some health problems from my car accident lately. Bit of a pain in the ass, not super mobile to get much work done on this thing.

I did buy another explorer though for my mom..this one without a sunroof. So ill have a backup vehicle in the meantime. Hoping for 55s with 3 10s or 3 12s maybe more if the note is a bit higher without the sunroof which id imagine is the case.

Frankie rios would almost be considered a 6th order because the subs and the rear (ported) chamber fire into the same area and then into the cabin.

This is all generalities of course, because none of these vehicles, as far as I can tell, were really built as bandpasses.

HMM!! This is very interesting. It seems a little hard to understand why their enclosures are not playing as 4th orders when they are indeed a 4th order? I also thought that Frankie's was a 4th order because the pictures I have seen did not show a port at the rear or either I could not tell? I also do not understand how you could "accidentally" build a 4th order bandpass if you were not trying to do so? I apologize for the inquisition, but I would really like to understand these designs better.
Think about it, the diamond is sealed subs firing into a chamber that comes through an opening.

The subs are in the sealed chamber. The port is tuned through the size of the opening and the depth of the enclosure

what were the specs of this enclosure Justin? And port opening and depth? Id assume this was the setup that peaked ridiculously low?

im super eager to get this thing going again. Ran into issues last spring and havent touched it since.

Although Im thinkin about reworking the design to put a loading wall in front of the diamond-tunnel.

Its going to be a tight squeeze.
