At SBN last year I noticed competitors participating in Bass Race without hearing protection. This is very dangerous for your hearing. All contestants must wear suitable hearing protection when remaining inside of the vehicle.
For really loud vehicles, contestants should wear BOTH earplugs AND external "over-the-ear" type hearing protection.

Is that going to be a rule? Or just a request? ( I think it should be a rule. If DB drag has a rule about it so should bass race. Keep everything the same.)

IMO, if you are running above 130dB, especially high 130's then this just might be a good idea.
If you are running under 130dB, then do without hearing protection.
* I wouldn't make it a rule though. Leave the decision up to the competitor.

I been wearing ear protection since last year since I can hear well from one ear already, I guess you should have a choice and if you don't wear one just make that person sign a disclaimer or something.

Make a rule, because the Audience is listening and watching... Show them that you protect your ears at competition to protect yourself. We want to do it safely... not only for Competitors. Safety Guidlines Bass Race:
You MUST insure that the operation of your vehicle will not endanger yourself or those around you...

You can get audiophile hearing protection. It doesn't change the frequency response of the system, it just makes it 20dbs (or whatever level you get) quieter. they are obviously more expensive than the wal-mart ear plugs, but it would allow you to hear the system.

Leave it up to the competitor. Most of us listen to our 140db and up cars everyday. I do not like the idea of being told to wear hearing protection in my own vehicle. Its my car, my choice.

That's a quick google search. I would bet anywhere that sells high end equipment for musicians will be able to get you a pair.
Really nice but they look like they are made for concerts. Where the levels are generally around 130 db. So by taking out -25db is a good thing, but at the levels we are playing to day that’s just not enough.
