Some issues lately have been coming up about improper reading from mics. These seems to revolve around a few things: mic placement, mic movement, calibration and the ever so mysterious...."where the heck did my db's go!"
Anyhow, it seems fair that if a car mysteriously jumps up 5 db from one run to the next that the judge checks out the car and measuring equipment. If there is a problem found (mic moved, banged on the window, out of calibration, etc), the car should be rejudged.
Now my question is this: When is it right for a COMPETITOR to ask for a rereading? What I mean is, if the competitor finds something wrong (as noted above) and can show the judge, should the competitor be allowed a rerun? I would think so.

I think this is quite reasonable. I would like to keep this at judge's discretion. I know there have been a few instances when a competitor has had an irregular score. Either I noticed it or it was brought to my attention. After speaking with the competitor and analyzing previous readings, an inspection of the equipment revealed a damaged mic cable in every instance. I then let the competitor re-run.
Judge's discretion.
