I just watched a clip of you on Ripleys, and I noticed that the magnets on your L7s are about 4x the size of mine. Are those special L7s, or just older or what?

PS: What record were you going for when you were on Ripleys?

Those were the S10L7g series and yes, they were a beefed up version of the L7. We now have the 2002 S10L7 woofer in the bronco.

We were at USACI finals and going after the Legal SPL record using the B&K. The record at that time was only 161??db. LOL - We gambled and won on that one. The bronco was not working right and we were lucky no one had gone before us or we wouldn't have been able to pull that one off. There was no way that bronco could have competed and won and we knew it, but others didn't.

We had the legal world record for a few hours, just enough time for Ripleys to film us and get out of KC before others set a bigger record. The games we play - however, we did the legal world record and that segment has been aired many times since the filming and will continue to be on the re-run circuit. lol

We did something like a 164/5db - not sure, but it was in that area. In 1998, we did a 169.6(I think) on the old B&K which was the loudest ever recorded by a car at that time. I still prefer the old B&K to the other meters.

I think the 2002 L7s are better than the ones I had in the bronco last year.

Polecat, can you give us manufacturer information on the L7?

The L7g's were made to hold more power, but when the 2002 L7 were released, and they held as much power as the G's, without the big bulky magnets, we saw no reason to keep the G's in there.

Massive magnets look awesome, but as long as you have a design that lets a woofer play to it's performance level, without a massive magnet, other than a 'woo' factor, IMHO, there is no need for it.

But the mags on the new 10s look as big as the mags from the '01 15s.....
