These last two months we have seen some big numbers come out of that Yellow Beastie..I have watched internet and am surprised that there has been so little reaction to them.
Not only is Michael a member of Team Gates, but he is one heck of a competitor and he is completely responsible for the design, install, and numbers in that van. I think the magic here is that Michael knows his products, his install, and the workings of the organizations where he competes.
In Daytona last month, he set a current world record in the extreme 9-12 with a 174.4db backing it up with a 174.8db. Not bad for 11 woofers right off the shelf.
Last weekend at Layton, Ok. (USAC 2X event) he did a 175.3db in their new super modified format which is similar to db drag - mic on dash, doors closed. He tried the db5 format and did an average of 177db.
It's amazing that a man so Loud can be so darn quiet!!!!

The location was great for a show. The building had doors on both sides so the car could drive in - do the competition and drive out the opposite door. That was nice.. no congestion.
There were 3 buildings - all connected by a hallway so you could visit and not get wet. It was a big car event sponsored by the Sweet Temptationz Car & Truck club and the sound event was sponsored by the HiFi Shop there in Lawton.
Ralph was using the Audio Tool Box for spl. I am not familar with it but since Michael did a 174.4 and 174.8 on Waynes meter and a 175.3 on this one using a very similar format - the numbers are close. Weather also could have effected the numbers in Lawton - wet & cool all weekend. The 177 and 178 numbers surprised all of us - even Michael. But hey, last year we had some big numbers that surprised us also. The magic now is to repeat those numbers. In my opinion - a true champion will come back and do that number again just to prove to the world that it was not a fluke.

Well, if everyone was as loud, then Michael would have to work harder! I have a feeling that is exactly what he is doing now. It's too quiet out there - it's going to be an interesting year.
LOL and yes, it can be embarrassing to say you are going to do a number - then have something happen and you don't come through. Better to do the number and just show the world.

I just wanted to add a comment to the Lawton show this weekend. I believe the mic's were pretty on this weekend i used an audio toolbox before i went out there 2 nights before the show. It read an 148.8 i came out on top with a 149.5 so not a bad improvement. I give thanks to the weather also. It was pretty cool being in a not so big town and seeing competitors like Alma, Gary, Michael, and Mark come out. I really was just stunned by the numbers micheal was putting out!! JUsta want to say WAY TO GO MICHAEL! and keep it up. I would refer to him as the Sleeping Giant!

Mike is a man of few words, iunless ya know him.. hehe JUST KIDDING !!! But I will say this.. he is one hell of a competitor. as someone else mentioned, he is the epitome (sp ??) of a classy competitor ( you too Ma !) One of these days, with Mike's help, I will be "Not Loud" too !! I wished I could have been there, but I was in Wichita,Ks this week. My aunt recently got out o the hopsital, and i took my mom and grandma to go see her). Otherwise Mike KNOWS I'll be there !! Someone has to help the man out.. I relinquish my security duties to Greg "BOOM BOOM" Davis.. hehe

Maybe after all the whining he did about what IASACA did to him at the end of last season, he's learned to be a little more modest?
Congrats Mike!
If you only knew the rest of the story.
As I have learned - if someone in my company makes a committment or promise on behalf of my company - I will follow through with it - because it is my company. I probably would have a good discussion with that employee - but my customers would not get screwed because of a screwup within my organization. When you stop and think - these organizations are businesses - making money for someone - or they would not be doing this competition bit...Therefore - we are all their customers because we pay their bills!
If the managing force does not have control - chances are good that company will not survive.
Honesty, Integrity, Service......
