I'm not sure which guest would be able to answer this but here goes...
Well I saw a picture and in it there was a black box mounted behind the rear right panel. It looked to be about 8-10 inches square, could someone tell me what this is? In the picture I could also see a shock sensor if that helps.

That area of the explorer is the alarm and digital volume control area. Most likely what you saw was the alarm brain and components or the digital volume control unit. If there is anything else I can answer feel free to ask.
