well i just got my cdt hd's today and im trying to get them installed in my '97 civic . i previously just thought i could do a little cutting and use the stock grill , but the speakers are too big to do that . atleast i think anyways . so now i am concidering making door pods myself or having a shop do it . i looked up some tutorials about making door pods and i think i might be able to pull off making them myself . but if for some reason i cant i was wondering what a shop might charge for basic door pods . thanks for any help .

i would say, by what we would charge up here, is probably around 500-800 bucks for a fiberglass pod, depending on complexity and finish. and probably 150-350 for mdf pods depending on complexity and finish.

hope that helps.

personally if i were you i would do it yourself.

I have (2) 6.5" pods in my Camry's door panel and they DO take some real hard work to finish (and lots and lots of time) Painting it was harder than I thought (even with adhesion promoter) LMK if you need more details [Smile]

ok thanks . i ended up going to a shop in my local area to see what they thought . going by the web site they have they seem to the best shop in my area . they said they could get them in the stock location and would cost me $65 for installation . im not sure exactly how they can get them to fit , but if they can do it for that price then i am one happy camper . if for some reason they cant i think i will end up making door pods myself . i cant see myself spending that kind of money for them to make them unless its my last resort . hopefully ill be getting them installed tomarrow so ill post back and let you know how it turned out . thanks for the help .

was 65$ just to install them? maybe they have a pre made line that will fit or something, but 65$ to make pods is way to cheap, and i am in doubt they can get pre made ones for that price. we charge 60 bucks just to replace the factory door speakers.!!!!!!

sorry the $65 was just for basic installation with some cutting and a spacer to get them to fit . unfortunatly as i suspected they couldnt get them in . so now i am off to make myself some door pods . i just have a couple questions though . i allready bought a fiberglass kit that clames to do 8 sq. ft. , but im wondering if i should just save the kit i have now for another use and get a gallon of resin and other materials so it would all be the same . also how long should i wait typically between layers ? thanks for the help .

for a door pod, if you are doing the first layer with stretched fleece, wait until it is nice and hard, probably around 4 hrs. then you can do all your glassing in one shot, just make sure to soak the glass good(as wellas the fleece in the first step) and get out all the air between the layers of glass. you can get away with 2 or 3 layers, which can all be done in one shot.

hope that helps you out some.

p.s.

i have made pods with only the fleece which were strong enough!!
