I am building a sub box currently for a single 15" Tempest to be put in a fairly small trunk.

The internal box volume after displacement/bracing/ports is roughly four cubic feet tuned to 25 hz.

I am going to make a custom fit extention several inches in front of the sub that will have a plexiglass window in it, and it will also make the job look a little bit more custom.

I plan on having the ports come out though the front of the extention. But my question was how close can I have the window to the sub without harming sound quality or SPL for that matter? If I could make it either 2" or 2.5" then that would be absolutly perfect, but I have a feeling that is too close.

Does anyone know how close you can have a plexiglass window to the face of the sub?

Thanks in advance,

Eric

Here's an idea that might work: try cutting some cool pattern out of the plexi in front of the sub so you get the effect of a custom grill cut into the window. Also, I think I saw somewhere that you can use a blowtorch to smooth out the cut edges of plexiglass, but I'm not sure on that one.

I thought of doing that, but I am going to go for a solid bevel/window in the front.

It is kinda hard to explain without a picture, but basically you know how a trunk goes back up to the part of the trunk where the trunk lid starts? Well all that area before I want to be sealed in with a custom fit plane, and in the center of that is a window.

So I need to know how close I can have that window to the sub... I am going to try 2" or else I will need to shrink my box a bit.
