I am going to build a box for two alpine swr1240's in the wheel well of my integra.my first question is will 2^3 of space be enough. I went to the alpine website and they recommend .7-1.0 per sub. Also, I want to fiberglasss the wheelwell will this result in a good sound alone. or will I only be able to use this space for extra airspace when incorporated into a larger box design. One last question, any ideas on how to make sure the fiberglass form doesn't rattle against the meatl of the wheel well when installed.

If you make the walls of the enclosure thick enough, they shouldn't rattle at all. On top of that the whole thing will conform exactly to the contours of the well if done properly, so there won't really be room for it to rattle. But if, for some reason it does, and there is room for it, just put a sheet or something down there to muffle it.

Fill it with sand or water maybe.

Get yourself some mixing cups from an auto paint store or from Lowes and then fill the enclosure with packing peanuts. Scoop them out and keep track of your total. Should give you a pretty accurate number to play with.

Fill it with water.

its like 7 gallons per cubic ft.

Or fill it with water and weight it. Dunno how much a cu ft of water weighs.

one thing you can do before you mask off the well, is to lay down some sound proofing, which will help considerlby, and should almost be a must in every system. then mask and lay down enough layers to make the box, super strong and thick. about 1/4" can be achieved in only a few layers. and it will be pretty good then. also make sure toget all air out and press it really good into the well, so it stays nice and tight, as mentioned above reducing the chances of rattling. dont forget to put a bit of dacron inside the enclosure to help out with your sound as well. and i like the water method, because it also helps to make sure that the box is completly air tight.

I had a 95 integra and built a box in the wheel well for an orion hcca 15. I didnt place anything under my box and it didnt rattle at all. It can't hurt...even a piece of cloth would do, just anything so it doest rub. But it's not necessary
