Hey guys I started glassing my doors up and thought I would upload some pics of how they are comming...
To be honest this was my first real fiberglass project, but I had a bet with my buddy at the stereo shop, that if I didn't use all these component sets laying around my apartment by his wedding(2mos), I would have to give them to him as a wedding present.
I have all these vifa mids and tweets that I bought for home theater/audio and since I moved to an apartment I only built 2 of the 5 speaker sets I bought.
So I figured why not put them in the doors, 2 weeks later I realised I better do this before I end up loosing them this is day 3 of the project...
Day 1 - Spent the whole day just cutting the damned rings for the speakers. I lost the dimensions so I had to eye it and my circle jig is 1/16 (jasper) so it took a couple hours between mikes hard lemenades and actual work. I also set the rings up with a glue gun on stilts just to get an idea of how they would fit.
Day 2 - I got down to ripping up a tshirt well 3 actually and using way too many staples I had what looked like a good foundation so I started painting it with the resin/hardner mix and let it cure and harden overnight.
Day 3 - (Today) I laid fiberglass cloth to reinforce the outer shell. And poured a mix of bodyfiller and resin inside the new box/panel to seal the inside as well as give it extra strength.
Here finally are the pics. I wrote this novel to show other people who have never really tore into a major project how easy it is and the satisfaction obtained by looking at it and knowing you did it! I learned how to do this just from looking at people picks of how to do kick panels and expanding that concept... I will do my next project "the sub box" with full pics on it...

when I do my sub enclosure I will do a step by step pictorial. My digi camera is ****ty but it will work for step by step pics and what not. I honestly just did a lot of searching and applied the principles I learned to make my door pods.
The hardest part is actually experimenting...
This is basically the principle for all fiberglass...
1 - Cut up some wood to make a frame (mdf etc, I used something easier to cut)
2 - Cover/wrap it with t-shirt material and secure the material to the frame using staples and a staple gun.
3 - Paint that with resin/hardner re-enforce it with mat and resin.
4 - fill in the outside imperfections with bondo
5 - sand and paint
