I just found this forum, I didn't know it existed so this is also posted in subs and enclosures, but I thought I'd contribute to the new forum. How do I drill holes in plexiglass for the screws to mount it without cracking the plexi? It's 3/4 inch plexi. Also, will I have a problem with flex since it's only 3/4 inch? Thanks.

3/4" should be thick enough except for extremely large panels - say anything over 24" square with no support.

For drilling I like to use a Unibit, but on the thick stuff that doesn't work so well. Just use a good NEW bit (go buy one if necessary!) and use medium speed with light pressure near the end of the cut. Most people go too fast...

Well you have to be very carefull when frilling. I made a box about three months back and My frined wanted to hear it with out the plexi glass on it so we took it off and herad a lot of highs and then when we went to put the lid back on the edge cracked off, but the cool part is that it sounded better ported that way anyways cool eh?

I posted this under "tips for fabricaton", but in case IDW missed it I'll post this part again...

When drilling into plexi, make sure the plexi is firmly attached to a piece of wood(clamps and cloth) or else the bottom of the piece you are drilling may crack.

I've got a few tips:

1. Use a plexi bit. They are designed for plexiglass. Wood bits are designed to pull the bit into the wood. Plexi bits let you do all the work.

2. Have a piece of wood underneath to keep the plexiglass from blowing out the bottom of the plexiglass.

3. Use a drill press if you can.

4. Don't go too fast or you will have it
grab.

5. Have a good grip. If you have a big enough drill, you can break your wrist if it grabs.

Thats all I can think of now.
