i normally use a utility knife to score and snap the piece to size, and for odd shaped cutouts i drill it then use a jigsaw or router. Any easier or quicker ways?

Easy and quick? Why sure, all ya need is a CNC controlled water jet. Insert material, press start, and BAM, accurate within .000001 of an inch.
Drawback, $80K price tage for such a machine. Luckily I've found a place in town here that just recently aquired such a beast, and they charge relativly little to use it.

i dont have a picture, but we use one at work to cut out hols in drywall for lights, outlets, etc...it kind of looks like a little tiny router, with basically a drill bit to cut things. it has many typed of other bits..in fact, about 3 AM this morning i saw an infomercial for the rotozip.

I have a dremel with a rotozip attachment, so I can use that, or buy a flush cut bit for the dremel part. I am going to buy a small laminate trimming router, as I think thats the easiest/fastest/most accurate way. And if something doesn't cut just right, I have a set of files to straighten it out with..

The rotozip has to be the coolest tool there is, and they even have bits that will cut MDF fast. I can zap out holes for 10s, 12s and 15s with the perfect circle attachment in about 1 min per hole. and if you havent seen one just watch the religion channels late at night when they turn into infomercial central they are on there all the time, and the USA network on Sunday nights cause they go infomercial too.

My Dremel(ok Sears Craftsman knock off ) is some of the BEST money I've ever spent. Nothing makes those "problem" head unit installs more painless!
Tried all the others. One other nice way, attach the formica with a little spray glue to 1/8" hardboard and iw will work great in a table saw.

standard 5.375" Dewalt cordless circular saw. with the 160tooth sanding blade...cuts like a dream and is not expensive. you just turn the piece you want OVER..and cut the back side..it will sand the piece down from the viewed side down. great looks from the get-go. Best Regards, Steve
