Particle board will eventually deteriorate from moisture and is not as strong as medite.

For the cost difference, go MDF.

MDF is stronger, vibrates less, and chips less than MDF.. It's well worth the extra $$$..

$16 a sheet here at Lowes, and I hear if you have a home depot in your area you can get it for about 14 a sheet. I prefer it over PB for the fact that it is much more accostically dead than PB, only thing is you have to predrill MDF or you will split the wood.

It will highly depend upon the grade of particle board. The cheap light weight stuff is junk. However, we locally have a new product (made here in town) that "works" very well and is consistent.

If you want the shiznit....get the oak laminated MDF sheets (like $40-$50), but works awesome!

Now HERE is a new question..

How many of you actually glue the mdf together BEFORE you cut it, for double layering, and just set the blade to 1.5" cut?

I do it in single layers. I can therefore get a "better" joint by "interlinking" the panels.

you can have your local wood supplier glue them for you..and they will stack about 30,000 lbs of wood ontop of it..so it will damn sure be together when you come to pick it up the next day. i use the HDF here locally..sure it goes through the blades a little quicker..but it flexes less for a 3/4" sheet vs. a 1" sheet of MDF..and it is actually heavier than that 1" sheet. the stuff is a huge ass piece of GLUE..with saw dust thrown in...it routes well just as the MDF does..just you bite at it a little slower with the router..and it goes through router bits a tad faster also. but the price is outstanding if you plan on MAKING BOXES for profit. since most boxes here start at $225+ the cost vs. performance difference is surely worth it..even on the fabricators end. use good tools?...use good wood! true as Jason stated that you will have to tap holes for any screw insertion.
Best Regards, Steve
