i have used metal for bracing for awhile and it works really well, i know people that have built boxes out of metals of all kinds some with good results some with bad results..

Aside form being harder to work on, Metal vibrates a lot more. Wood (especially MDF) keeps vibration (and coloration) to a minumum. Have you ever seen a wooden tweeter dome??
