how would a metal box be rather than wood?
i see hifonix uses a lot of metal in there spl vehicle the diamond plate stuff.

i have used metal for bracing for awhile and it works really well, i know people that have built boxes out of metals of all kinds some with good results some with bad results..

Aside form being harder to work on, Metal vibrates a lot more. Wood (especially MDF) keeps vibration (and coloration) to a minumum. Have you ever seen a wooden tweeter dome??

Chances are any diamond plate you see is a 1/4" thick applique onto a wood box.
