I've got my new box almost done! Someone once told me that spraying truck bedliner inside of the box and letting it dry for a few days would strenghten the box and help sound deaden it. Is this true? I'd hate to ruin a good box.

Yes on the sound deadening, not necessarily on the strength issue, spray-in liners are designed to remain flexible throughout their lifetime, so they will help reduce resonant sounds made by vibrating panels, the walls will still flex, but make little sound doing it. For increased strength you should always brace the walls internally, this will help keep the panels from flexing.

Oh don't worry Mabeita... that box is braced so well its ridiculous. The can says to ruff up the surface of the truck bed first, but you can't really "ruff up" MDF, it just powders off, so would it be fine to just spray it right onto the wood without sanding first?

BTW, why aren't you a Moderator on here? You answer a ton of questions and its obvious by your installs you know what you're doing and are good at it. Not really any of my business i guess, just wondering.

I was sorta curious about the mod part as well. You always help when you can and do it in a professional manner. Anyways, yes you can just spray it in there. I've used the bedliner spray before. Expensive though. Just last night on this forum I was told a less expensive way of doing this. At Lowes and Home Depot they carry a rubberized roofing sealant. 1gallon can of elastomeric for 12.97. I picked some up today and will try it out after work on my new box.

i've recently started using spray bed liner coatings for damping material myself. in fact, i gutted the whole cab of my truck and sprayed about 4 coats. the stuff i use was purchased from wal-mart and you can get it in 1qt or 1gallon sizes. one gallon costs about $40 and sprayed my cab about 4 times out of a regular spray gun/air compressor. in my opinion, this stuff works great. deadened the cab a hell of a lot and reduced flexing of my roof. and MUCH easier to work with and apply than sticky sheets of dampeners.

No I'm not a moderator, maybe someday, I just really think that knowledge is useless if you never share it. I've been an installer for about 18 years, and have different views than most of my colleagues. I try to remain as available to whomever needs my help, afterall sombody out there is bound to be just like I was some 18 years ago, except he or she won't be installing any underdash 8-Track players.

YES ,MABEITA.
please i urge you to try for another mod in this forum cause i need help .
I work so much and travel so much it's very hard for me to check on the section even every couple of days.
you seem to have lots of good advice and a very level head.

on the bed liner stuff you will need to at least scuff the mdf so it will adhear to the mdf.
if you donot it will peel of in extreme heat.
I have used this stuff many times over the last couple of years for deadening purposes.

LOL... i don't know, i've heard 8 tracks are making a serious comeback j/k. Thanks for the help you two, I sprayed the bedliner all over the inside of my box a few hours ago, and i've got one fan pushing air into the box, and one pulling it out the other side, so it should be good by tomorrow. There are a few spots that got thicker than other areas... this won't mess with the way my box sounds will it???? Please say no, I'm about done with this thing and i think if i have to spend another day on it my g/f is going to either shoot me or burn it
