I worked w/ fiberglass on my own for the first time today. I know what you guys mean by the smell of fiberglass now. wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee j/k. I didn't sniff thatmuch
Man, it's hard to get the resin to hardner hardner ratio right. It's kind of cool how you can smell when the resin starts to cure. Don't worry, I wasn't TRYING to smell for it I used some bondo-glass too, but the ratio for that one was easier to get right. Shoot, I'm using regular body filler bondo next time. Sanding isn't fun w/ bondo-glass.
I'm going to work on my amp rack soon. I was wondering what the difference is between the different fiberglass fabrics and stuff. I was looking at Tap Plastics' webpage and they have a bunch of different fabrics. What's Knytex? It sounds familiar.

I'm making a pod to hold my voltmeter and I used hardboard and grill cloth for the skeleton and I used the bondo-glass for filler. I didn't know bondo-glass was so fiberglassy/prickly... I'm using normal bondo from now on. Ouch. It's not too bad though, since I'm using gloves, but I feel slightly itchy...
They have better prices than TAP and carry the same stuff.
Knytex is cool stuff. It builds up fast and is just about the strongest weave around now. It's great for flat pieces to moderately curved areas. It doesnt like tight curves cause it's a heavy material.
I use quite a bit of it.
