Quick 2 questions...one, what stores carry 4x8 sheets of HDF cause i'm having a hell of a time finding someone that sells it. second, this idea crossed my mind and don't know if it would work or make a difference, but has anyone ever lined the inside of their boxes with wonderboard, which is cement board normally used under tile flooring. this stuff seems to be extremely study and solid...seems like it would deaden the enclosure well too. any ideas or suggestions?

Wonderboard would be a good liner, but you'd have to abke sure that the walls did not flex at all, it does not hold up well to vibrations, cement is like that.

sorry about that...forgot to mention i was going stricly for spl. if i could find hdf, i was going to go with 1" or double up on 3/4" mdf. i'm hoping there wouldn't be too much flex with that but there will be a fair amount of pressure within the boxes. each box will hold 4 15" kove kld15-2 with almost 400w to each sub using dual 8" ports. of course, internal bracing is a must, but would the fiberglass be better than the cement board idea? thanks for the suggestions guys

For SQ I'd be temped to go with the Wonderboard, if you brace the box well, there should be little vibration and the cement content should yeild a zero resonance chamber. Also throw on a coat of fiberglass resin to seal the pourous surface of the wonderboard. SPL is still a possibility though.

Done it yes cement board works great! better yet there is a product called dura(o)Rock its the same thing only thicker and has fiberglass in it. I origanally got my idea from some old martinez (sp?) floor speakers that were filled with SAND! ha - I agree tho seal em up well with some resin - pound away.. matter of fact use resin to bond the stuff to the inside - I used a gal can of liquid nails but i bet resin would work better...
GOOD LUCK - let us know what you do

Im in the drywall business and have been for over 25 years. Ive used both wonderboard and durock on walls as tile backing. Neither product is rigid as it seems yer lookin for. Both will flex about the same as MDF will. The absolute stiffest i have found is epoxy resin mixed with sand and colloidal silica applied to diamond mesh lath. Stuffs like concrete but more durable. I actually put a layer on the outside of a box then glassed it smooth. There was no need for additional bracing since it was a small box and it is truly an accousticaly dead box. I guess i went overboard a tad, being a rookie and all, but it worked well beyond my expectations.
