Hey guys, started on my dash a little while ago and have some pics up of the progress which is kinda comin along slow..not much time to work on um recently. But here they are. The holes in the dash are there to let the woofers drop lower to position them better and will hav enclosures made around them to fit into the holes with the rings for them. any critiques/comments/concerns are appreciated. The whole dash will be painted the exterior green color

Yo guys...this is just a small update..did some cleaning up of the edges and did more sanding with some 220 grit and its getting close to painting time.

Im sending it to a small body shop close-by for painting after I finish up smoothing everything else...and theyll just make sure its nice n smooth for me, round off edges better, and paint it finally the same as exterior (dark green).

But yet again im going really slow on this, almost never hav time to work on it it seems...ugh, its painful looking at the components/amps/8's every time i go downstairs...*tear*

doesn't look bad at all!

I like the fact its just going to secure to the dash instead of being a permenant fixture like if you molded the dash itself

yep, itll be completely removable. But it is a mold of the dash and the factory one is set aside just incase (dunno why i would..) i will ever need it again

..probly not, im drivin this bad boy till it dies, hoping to get another 100,000 out of it atleast...its in fantastic condition, at 151,000 now...my friend has the same saturn/yr/but the model under mine and is at 275,000 and still running strong, but he doesnt take care of his quite like i do (waxed 6 times a year...armor all everything, tire shine like crazy...mmmmmmm, thats the good stuff), so im thinkin mine will last longer...hopefully

Thanks for the comments guys, now if id only get to work on the damn thing haha. peace

haha, its in my basement right now...theres like 5 inches of snow on the ground and its like 18 degrees out right now...the second it warms up here im gunna get on it

And i kind of adjusted the design a bit to fire the midbasses upward...and Im probably going to go with a pair of tweets in the A-pillars and a pair high on the doors near the A-pillars..

I'll keep you guys posted, thanks

is there an asthetic reason why you positioned the midbass drivers more toward the glass? I might have done that with tweeters, but i'd have tried not to with the lower frequencies.

please do my car, truck, suv, mini van, living room at my house! The work looks good, I hope the imageing works well. I allways wanted to a project loke that but had worries about resonance from the wind-shield. Not to mention parts and pieces inside the dash. don't stop, those premier midbass should kick a@#!!

Thanks man, much appreciated...its starting to warm up so Im going to wrap it up...and ive decided on having it a matte black instead of painting it the same as the exterior...but i think its going to make drowning out the mids/highs kinduv hard with 3 pairs infront of you and 1 pair behind with the 8's aswell...lol

Ill def hav updates soon...thanks again

Just a suggestion:

Wrap the dash in suede or some type of material.

1) Bright reflective surfaces suck when it comes to driving.

2) Sound reflection absorbing properties of material. A dashmat (carpet) usually helps absorb reflections occuring in higher freq. when there are dash speakers installed.

I would recomend wrapping it in vinyl but doing so creates other issues if it gets the least bit warm in the vehicle. (Gasses released from the heated vinyl cloud up the windshield, possible warping of the fiberglass if the vinyl is stretched too tight and the fiberglass gets too hot.)

Awesome work!

Thanks

And yea, ive moved past painting it with a clear coat and everything. Im thinking about painting it a matte black and if reflections are a big problem thinking about covering it with something that will handle it better.

Hey guys, is there any way for this to be legal in competition (ss nw) or will I have to go get a factory dash piece to replace it with for every comp? And sadly I still havent gotten this done, still sitting the same as the last pics [Frown]
