I'm tired of my box not having some kind of covering to make it look better. Where can i get carpet to cover it that will go on easily with 3M spray adhesive and not always be curling up at the seems? All the local auto places here and Wal-Mart carry the same stuff, but it's automotive carpet designed to be put in the hatch or on the floor of a vehicle, so it's really thick. I want something about as thick as tweed, but not tweed.
Also, can MDF be painted with like house paint and look ok, or does it look trashy? I'm leaning more toward trashy, but i really don't know. Any opinions would be appreciated!

You may have a local fabric store that carries trunkliner box carpet, but some need business accounts that do. I recommend buying some from parts express if you cant get some from a local shop(some will sell to public, some wont). But P.E has great service and is the easiest place if you cant find carpet locally.

you need a better glue like weldwood or keyston.
that is your problem not the carpet.

Thanks for the help guys. I was always put under the impression that 3M spray adhesive was the best for this sort of thing, not going to say by who (my dad... oops) Were would i go about getting those other adhesives?

-The secon part of that sentence didn't make a whole lot of sense to me... think you could reword it for me

If you have an automotive upholstery supply shop in your town (most have something like that, check your yellow pages), then they will have many different materials you may choose from, should sell to the public (at higher rates than if you own a business though), and they will also have the other glues that were mentioned. The only problem with those other glues is, they usually only come in LARGE quantities, like a 5 gallon drum, and require you to spray it on using an air glue gun (or automotive paint spray gun works too), but sometimes you can find it in 1 gallon cans, which is still too much really. You CAN roll/brush/throw it on if you want too, but it isn't nearly as good. If you MUST use 3M, remember to spray LIBERALLY (quite a lot) on the box AND on the back of the carpet you're using, let it tack up for a minute or two, then put the pieces together. This will assure a better bond, and will likely not peel after a short time. I recommend stapling the edges where it overlaps behind the box too, if you can. That way it keeps the edges locked in place so they CAN'T peel back.

If you use the other glues though, you will NEVER and I repeat NEVER have it peel. Matter of fact, to REMOVE it you will have a hard time! (I use Weldwood landau & Trim adhesive in the 5 gallon drums, sprayed through a paint gun, applied to both surfaces, let tack for about 1-4 minutes depending on weather, then apply, and press in place. It ain't coming apart after you're done). hehe

Good Luck.

Oh, and as other suggested, if you can't find a local supplier, you can get the stuff through parts express or other internet sources. Also, sometimes you can find some usable (but not so fantastic) carpet at Walmart. It's called Ozite, and should do just fine for what you need. It's a little thicker then you want though I think.

All of this is really going to save me a lot of time and money (that 3M stuff is half way pricey considering it doenst work worth a crap) I have used the staples for other boxes i've built (for people that don't care about asthetics) but they're no good for the sides of the boxes that can be seen.
One last question (i think) I plan on getting some 1/4 inch MDF and cutting out a big JL logo and glueing it to the top of my box so it will be slightly raised under the carpet and add a more "custom" look. Are any particular carpets better for a situation such as this? I'm figuring the carpet will need to be pretty thin to get definite edges around the logo (versus a raised up area that just fades into the rest of the box) Once again, any suggestions will be equally considered
