I am looking for the fishman method of making trim rings. either a link or instructions on how to do this. I guess he uses a regular router with the router in a router table. he also uses bondo and the sub to make a mold but I cant remember the rest. I have a circle guide but it sucks right now without having a plunge. give me some ideas on how u guys make your recessed subwoofer trim rings

plunge router, jasper circle cutting jig, and wood glue to glue two rings together for a flushed look.

It doesn't get any easier than that.

I use a Jasper Jig. You can get it from parts express. Their website is down right now, but I saw (before it crashed) that they have both jigs (for big and small) on sale right now for under $40.00.

If you plan on being in this game for any amount of time, invest in a Jasper Jig.

Yep thats it.
Just cut the outside dia 1st then the mounting hole. Dup. that on the router table and glue and nail them together. Now you have a ring thats 1 1/2" thick so you can now rabbit the mounting hole so the driver is countersunk. Round over the outside and your set.
Hope this helps, LUNDY

Here's the link for one of the jasper kits from partsexpress: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?&DID=7&Partnumber=365-250

I suppose you could just replace the base of your router with some mdf and use a good plunging bit and a peg or nail that you have in the centre of the circle and just spin the router in the circle. You'd have to have some trash mdf underneath if the router isn't in a table. Brilliant idea though. Beats a jigsaw. Have to try this next time.
