how do i go about starting some thing like this?

 -

one way i thought about was carving it out in foam then covering it with foil and putting glass over that. but i'm sure there is more then one way to do this.

Find a plastic skull and cut a hole in the back of the MDF plate Using a thin jigsaw blade) that it will easily fit through. Using a rabbit bit, cut a 1/4 inch groove in the desired pattern. (this guy did it sort of square, I would have went more oval) The route must be neat. You are going to secure the skull to the plate you cut out somehow, and get some very thin material (old logo-less t-shirts work well ) and staple it into the groove of the MDF plate allowing enough slack to push the skull through. You now have 2 peices, one large MDF plate with a hole cut in and a t-shirt on the hole, and one small peice that fits exactly inside it with a skull attached. With the skull face up on a table coat the contact points of the skull (not the facial parts) with resin and and now put the other plate on top of it and the skull will stretch the shirt. Now coat the shirt in resin being careful not to get it on the face, the other areas you can bondo smooth after. You will also strengthen the structure from the inside later.

- go to the halloween store (perfect timing too [Wink] )
- purchase that identical plastic skull you mount on your door w/'stress stretches' (one's i've seen are green)
- cut the flaps so it lays flat
- glass
- prep/paint

lmao you guys are funny

buy a mask(plasic preferebly), ca glue the mask onto the piece you want to mold it to. cut everything you don't want to be seen on your project off of the mask

Stretch fleece over the project, using ca glue to get the countours of the mask like you want.

Fiberglass said project with a few layers of mat inbetween coat.

Sand with a 40 - 60 grit

Using Rage Gold Extreme lay a light coat over the project, sand when its still kinda flaky, use 40 - 60 on this as well

Fill all holes you'll get

Sand with 120ish

Gonna take 2 years of sanding to get that face countoured

The idea EastCoast had, with pushing the skull through the shirt would work...BUT that shirt isn't gonna countour to the mouth and eyes just pushing it through

Alot of work for not a real original project IMO
