Well, I had a customer that wanted a Pioneer Z1 in his 05 Durango. As most of you know, the dash isn't exaclty the right size, lol. I saw Steve Meade's pics and some people link to the liquid plastic, so I told the customer I could do it for him. This is my first attempt, and i'm not done. Will be finishing in the morning. Tell me what you think, thanks! Oh, and sorry for sh**ty cam-phone pics. I'll have 3mp in tomorrow.

Sanded and first coats of highbuild primer:
Still pinholes and shaping to take care of:
Last putty treatment drying overnight:
Z1 in it's new home: (note, these cars are EXTREMELY easy to make accomodate a double din. The factory radio "bucket" unbolts with 6 screws and only needs light trimming to make a doubledin fit)
Equipment installed:
I'll post more tomorrow when I finish. Doing a black textured finish for him.
If your inspired by what i do then i need to shout out to Andy Jones because his dash work inspired me and im sure someone else inspired him.....its what its all about man, thats what were here for. Keep up the good work, finish strong for us!

Well thanks Andy Jones for inspiring Meade, who inspired me, lol. Means a lot that you think it's going well. Any tips for finishing out? Only issue I ran into so far was that if you pressed on the trim part, a crack would form where the liquid plastic was seperating from the original dash (incredibly small crack between grey l.p. and black dash). It wasn't holding well once sanded. I found a nice way to fix: Took a bottle of super glue and dipped a small 3" ziptie in (not the head). Then i pushed on trim to open crack and ran ziptie along the top of the crack. The superglue ran into the crack and after holding the trim tightly against the dash, the parts were boded tightly. So hopefully that's the end of that. I think it's cause there's only about 1/8 of and inch for the liq. plas. to hold onto on the factory dash.
what liquid plastic did you use? I bought the stuff from HzEmall but haven't used it yet. sounds like the glue solved the cracking problem, but you could also put some of the liquid plastic on the backside where the hot glue was used (if it didn't interfere with the dash unit).

Another thing that I have done in the past when doing stuff like this is plastic weld the radio trim to the dash pannel. It won't give at all. Your goal is to brase that pannel so that it wont flex. as soon as it does, that piece will crack every time. Also, do a test fit before you paint it. Textured or not, if it crackes when you go to put it on that finnal time, it will show up. Hope this helps.

If that is regular spot putty with no hardner, then I would highly suggest using something else...cause that stuff never hardens.
And Tim's "liquid plastic" is really different than the stuff you guys are using...
And if you want to really glue abs together, do yourself a favor and use IPS Weld-on 1707.
