so yeah i dont want to cut my truck up so i had an idea of getting a camper shell thing, one with no sidewindows so it doesn't look like grandpa's truck..lol and taking the back window out and cutting a hole in the camper top so i don't have to cut my truck. has any one done this? and how did you connect the cab to the camper part?

There are quite afew people go that route as opposed to cutting up metal, many of which are members here. Id assume you could use the same old accordion boot like a more common blow through in the same manner. Hopefully someone with first hand experience can chime in and give you more insight into your question.

I built quite a few trucks, back in the day, with subs coming through the window. It works great. As was said above the old faithful accordian boot between the camper shell and the window opening works great.

One note about the boot. When you install it. Start at the bottom center, work your way around both the camper and window together. ((If you have to cut the campers front opening, Round your corners, NO SQUARE CORNERS!!! the boot cant squeze into a 90deg corner and it will leak.)Been there!!!) When you reach the center again to join the boot together, cut the boot 3" too long. Trim the outer edges (the outer edge has metal teeth in it to hold it in place) to fit snug against your start point. Then lap over the extra 3" of boot. I normally seal mine with Windshield Urathane(sp). This lip over helps keep moisture out.

Hope this helps.

Accordian boot was used originally for the purpose of connecting a shell to the cab of the truck. If you listen to thunder, it will work fine.

The only problem I experienced was alot of outside noise being heard. (I'm sure I could have sound-deaded the bed and shell, but I didn't feel up to it.)

sweet thanks alot for the tips! and yes i was worried about the extra noise but i thought if i put the box snug against the campershell/cab and sealed it off it wouldn't be so bad... and also i think with the camper shell i may get a little better gas milage ! but then again the extra weight... oh well screw it, it's a reg cab ford its the only way i'm really going to get bass !

oh yeah there used to be a guy on here with a pic of his truck in the sig that had this done. does any one else have pic's?

TY for the tips/heads up also !

I'm sure my gas mileage dropped with the shell on. They aren't the lightest things in the world. (especially with thumps in them)

If you have a window in the camper it is really easy. I had a frontier and all I had to do was pop off the windows of the truck and camper and put on the boot. Some people have to cut a bit off of the camper to make it perfect but thats just how easy it is. Campers are super expensive too though.

LOL at the gas mileage I could never tell the difference and I had 2 15s and 12 cubes in mine. I drove slower with the system and camper and bodyroll there for compensating for driving like a crazy person and getting the same mileage heh.

Camper shell will make the vehicle more aerodynamic, thus improving fuel mileage, and counteracting the extra weight...

actually it will do nothing but bad.

the air in a pick up gets caught in the bed at slower speeds and tornados in the bed, causing air to flow over the tail gate.....u get no better mileage with tail gate down than up, why would a camper shell do any different?

yeah it was, but i knew way before that. ive seen people at the track run with gates up and actually run a tenth faster than with it down. automatics, so the shifting cant be at fault on that.
