anything inside the box is legal as long as your not hideing batts or amps. Resin normaly helps. clean the box good and use a paint roller.

ok i want to say that this is a hypothetical, due to most enclosures being ported on this forum... I could see doing it on a sealed enclosure because of the mdf is porous...

but can someone give the hard scientific proof that this isn't voo doo? I am not raising no BS flag, i am just trying to understand how you come up with that.

thanks in advance

jim

well J, i would say that just like anything else, sometimes it helps, sometimes it hurts.....you just have to experiment. I think my teamate Rusty glassed the inside of a box a few years ago and lost a little. He got inside and sanded the rough stuff smooth and got it back (i think i remember right if not forget i said that LOL)

hey jim, if you seen some of the weird stuff that helps, you would be surprised. ask Team Children Of The Corn for some dimple port pics, hahahahaha. The dimples were created with a 3/4" drill bit and looked like a golfball, but seemed to help them gain a couple tenths.

Sonofabish! I thought I was the only one nutty enough to apply that theory. [Frown]

well mommy told me that according to the physilogical studies taking on molecure chain reaction it was found...

anyways... I know I am on the spl forum but is there anyone here scientifically making statements... like other forums have accoustical engineers showing up and writing stuff like 678^5/ab=21cgsft@(564+562) to say that a nats fart is subsonic...

just wondering?

From a nonspl person---I think it has to do with air flow. I don't think the resin makes the enclosure more dense or stronge---I think it gives the enclosure an ice like surface for the air to flow over. From what I've been told by some SPL guys, any air turbulance causes a decrease in SPL. So the resined MDF is smoother, the rounder corners is smoother than a 90 degree, etc.

With that said---the dimpled ports doesn't make sense in the above theory.

Again---a non spl guy's theory.

well actually the dimples make sense in a way, if you look at why a golf ball has the dimples... but then again who the hell knows... If i will ever build an SPL syatem, i am just going by the specs, bringing a Jamacian voodoo priest with me... and see how i do

the dimples help reduce the air drag. if you take a golf ball and then if you had that same golf ball just with out the dimples the one WITH dimples will go about 2/3rds or more further when you hit it with the same force.
