Im building a system using fiberglass and wanted to know if its worth trying to port it? I want this system to sound badass and I know I can pick up a few db's with a correctly build ported enclosure. Which would be better to use round ports or slot ports? The subs need 2 1/2 sq ft of airspace and a 30 sq in sloted port to be tuned to I think 45-50hz but those specs are for a normal square mdf enclosure from what the tech's at Xtant told me, would it still sound the same using a fiberglass enclosure with the odd shape?

Yes, as long as the box volume stays the same. Why are you tuning your box so high? Is it for SPL? If not then I would tune the box lower. Becasue anything below the fs of the enclouser will sound nasty. In a fiberglass box, a slot port is easier to build into the enclouser than a round port. That is just what I have found out. Others might have other ideas.

I might tune it a lower but yea I got the specs from Xtant with intensions to go for more SPL but I dont know if its worth it with the subs im using, Xtant x1244's and a 1001dx amp. Iv never even heard these subs before but I allready have the Xtant amps and I like keeping Brands consistant for cosmetics. Iv heard they pound and are very good as SQ subs but I'm leaning more towards SPL

the venting of the enclosure is FREE output. you can turn your amplifier gain down the equivalent of having two times the line level voltage. sub moving less means better possibility for low distortion. here is the easy way to find out what you want. build it ported and then listen, then block off the vent with a good sized chunk of seat cushion foam about 1/3 the depth of the vent. this will closely resemble the original sealed enclosure of the same volume. you'll definitely have to turn your amp gain up to get the same output as compared to the vented option, but you have the option of really low frequency bump of the sealed system being that large (at will) plug it for whale copulation lows and open it up for p*ssing off the neighbors. win/win situation. cosmetic appeal...that depends on how elaborate you get with your vent plug, could look killer, could look like wet pig anus, up to you and your creativity. good luck and merry christmas.
