Well, i didn't know where to post this so i thought i'd come in this forum. anyways, im going to be purchasing two alpine type-r 12" subs soon along with a 2400watt power acoustic amp. now for my bass i'm looking for low LOUD notes. for box sizes i have anywhere from 1.0 - 4.0cu.ft to play with. i was just wondering what would be best for the LOW LOUD notes if i should stay sealed or perhaps go ported. although with ported i wouldn't know how to get low loud notes from...anyways here's my box idea for the ported box if i put the 2-12" type-r's in there (sorry for the long post):

box specs:
3.83cu.ft total
58sq.in port area
36"W x 16"H x 18"D (port in the middle)
port: 14.5"H x 4"W x 12.5"D thanks a lot

i came up with a net volume of 4.0^ft after vent and subwoofers displacement. with that area and length of vent, you are tuning the box higher than 45Hz which will most definitely not produce a super strong low note. if you attempt to (power) the low note out of it, you'll be clipping the amplifier to get it done. there really is no way of saying what is the right box without knowing what the vehicle is and the proximity of the closest surfaces to the box, (where you'll put it, firing which direction, how close to trunk lid, etc, etc.) get that info and our database of vehicles and their natural response curves can aid in the recommendation of the most "POUND per pound" box that you can put in there. we build hundreds of boxes yearly and document every one of them so we have extensive knowledge of what works in what. PM me if you wish.
