how well does fiberglass stick to the plastic(I think its ABS)used in the factory console in my 88 SS?

Not well at all. You can rough it up with a low grit sandpaper (60 or below), or better would be to drill holes through it and fiberglass on both sides. The fiberglass will adhere to itself and the console's plaster will just be in the middle.

Or you could just make a mold of the console and not ruin your factory one.

the factory one is already broken thats sort of why I opted to customize it...its a hard sort of plastic not like the vinyl feeling stuff found in the newer cars

Unless it melts like mine did when I tried making my box. It didn't like 'melt' but the texture to it got all lost and goofy looking.

I guess if you do try it, use small amount of hardener.

No, tape it up first. Painter's tape will protect the console and allow you to rip a mold of it.

I did tape it and then used mold release on it. I think leaving it out in the sun is what did it. hard to say, when I pulled the tape off the adhesive was a nasty goop as well.

I also used vinylester resin, gets much hotter than polyester.

don't really care about text or the original console right now..the original is broke and isn't doin me much good..and for texture I might get it wrapped in vinyl at least a portion of it..really working on teh layout of it now..I give you guys with the custom console 2 thumbs up...

kinda put the console on pause and started working on custom door panels speaker pods
