well ive been researching alot the last few weeks about glassing door panels. from what ive read, the easiest way would be to just glass over the stock panel. sounds easy enough. but on my door its seems kind of tricky..... ok i just tried to figure out how to post a pic in this message and cant do it. i got a pic of the panel. the problem is a lil wood looking section thats not removable as far as i can see. im tryin to figure out how to glass like the lower half of the door and still blend it in with the door.????? also it would be easier if i could post the pic in this message. how to do it.

To post a picture. Upload it somewhere on the internet (it can't be on your harddrive). Try http://www.photobucket.com they are free and reliable.
After that get the location of the picture. Have the picture on your screen on the internet---right click--go down to properties---copy that entire address (it will end with .jpeg, .gif, etc.)
then come back here and use this
{IMG}ADRESS OF PICTURE{/IMG}
Except replace the { }with [ ] and paste the thing you copied from the picture's properties to to where it says Address of picture.

Hey it's a 92-96 caprice! The wannabe wood section IS removable. You have to be VERY careful, but there is a clip underneath the forward pointed section, pull upwards on the front and it should let loose. Next, there is some catches on the the side that is closest to the panel itself. Once these give you should be able to get the panel with all your seat adjustment switches off.
To get the whole door panel off- you have to take the panel that surrounds your door handle off and the 4 screws that hold everything on. (one being the screw that is on the handle panel, 2 screws in the armrest, and one that is in the pocket that has your check stubb in the picture)
Then work a panel puller around the perimeter of your door panel. There is some plastic press rivets that hold it in place. They are most likely to break so you are going to want to find replacements.
The door panel itself can actually be seperated from the upper and lower half along the downward sloping line. It's two sections that are spot plastic welded together.
Beyond that I really can't say much more. I refused to do any cutting or dismantling to my factory panels because I wanted to keep them Original. Instead I opted for custom kick panels.
IMO- the location and size of factory speakers blow azz.
If you have any Q's just ask.
Good luck! And remember to post pics.

yea i think imma mess with the doors last. imma start by making tweeter pods i the a pillars first for practice. i got a pair of pillars today at the junk yard. also got the rear panels that surround the back windows that i wanna do a components set in with fiberglass. ill prolly start tommarow. right now just trying to figure out the best way to secure the tweeter baffle ring to the panel for aiming. i prolly wont worry about gettin the imaging and stagin perfect.

ok now my plan is to just mount the lil cup for the tweeter and try to blend it in with the pillar. from what i hear, fiberglass is a lil overkill. is there something to where i can aim it how i want, secure it and just fill in around it. obviously i would go back and sand and shape it. ive read alot about liquid plastic but that seems expensive and would have to be bought online. is there anything locally that would work for something like this. something to stick to plastic that will harder and can be sanded?

I would make a baffle where the current speaker hole is, Glass over that whole bottom area, enclose that pocket and make that the enclosure space for the speaker.

yea i was thinkin maybe take the 2 door sections apart, top and bottom. wrap the whole bottom half i guess? or just glass the surface and wrap that and bolt it to the panel?

I'm not familiar with how that door breaks down. But at first glance, I would take it apart, just use the bottom half, remove that wooden/plastic trim on the window switches. Mount the baffle in the desired place (make sure you have room behind for the speaker) and wrap that whole bottom peice. Make sure the back of the baffle and the pocket you have in the door are now one big enclosure for the speaker, this will take the most work. Its near impossible to explain the best way to do it without seeing and taking apart the door.
Whats wrong with mounting the speaker behind the factory panel? My car has 8" JL's in the doors and the panels are stock...

Hey that looks pretty familiar. Sounds like your planning on doing the exact same thing as me. My ppi's will be in build outs where the stock speakers were and I will be using themap pocket area as space for the enclosure. I haven't made up my mind yet as where my 6.5 elites will be going but the tweet will be in the a pillar. Tell me how yours works out.
