How much ($) do I need if I want to build a box for 1 sub completely in plexiglass (around 1 c.f). Where canI get it or is it better to pay for one?

Half a sheet of 3/4" plexi can most likely be had for $250-ish. (Look under Plastics in your Yellow Pages) Construction is another thing altogether....

The main question is WHY?!? Do you really need to see the carpet of your trunk???

I went to Lowes the other day and they had Plexi squares for like 5 $ a sheet.. but that is only enough for one wall and it was like 1/2 inch so just be smart and build one of wood he he

ok, I think I'll go with MDF. Now can anyone tell me what shape is the best for a box?

The reason he said a sphere (I am guessing) is because a sphere is considered a perfect enclosure. It reduces the chance of standing waves or cancelation. Check out the install of Kurt Scherer's '92 Nissan 240SX in the March issue of Auto Sound & Security. He made a spherical enclosure that is 3/4" of fiberglass. That is a sh*t load of work and sanding. I thought about trying this myself about a year ago, but then scratched it when I realized how long it would take to do and look decent. Still thinking about it if I happen to run across an extra 200-300 hours that I don't have anything to do.

A sphere the perfect enclosure? I don't think so. As far a standing waves, they don't really matter for subbass but a sphere will eliminate all but the ones corresponding with the diameter of the sphere and it's multiples. These would get out of control in a higher frequency array.

Why do some consider a sphere the perfect enclosure. It has no advantages in strength and edge diffraction is hardly a problem with woofers. Is it cuz they are hard to make???

I'm seriously interested in this..

Screw the sphere!!!! Construct a box that has a parabolic front where the woofer mounts and then your talking!!! This would deflect most, if not all, the sound waves to the focus. If the focus was properly placed, such as the mic, you would have much higher numbers. But then agin, who has an extra 200-300 hour for construction, let alone including all the variables.

you are giving me good ideas, yet I want something that I can build by myself. Is it better a cube or a box without simmetrical sizes.
